I tore down a block today that I had swapped out of somebody's car. He said it had a tick. You couldn't hear it from in the car. You could only hear it with the hood up. Sorry for the crappy cell phone picture but even in this crappy picture you can see that one set of bearings was on its way out. The crank looks ok but I'll need to get it checked out and maybe get that one journal polished.
It doesn't take long to tear things apart. It only took an hour. Putting it back together is another story though.
Someone should set up shop where all they do is swap used long block's and 5sp tranny's. No built engines, or tranny's, just stuff that they pull from one car rebuild it put back on the next one, affordable and keep peoples cars on the road who actually have to depend on them until they can afford to upgrade. They would be friggin rich.
Damn. Is it me or do you not see a whole hell of a lot of turbo subies make it over 120k without some sort of major catastrophe?
Breel has about 150k and I think someone else is rolling with about 140. I'm sure there are a few out there
Yes but there are professionally tuned cars. It just seems that if you leave the motor alone from the time the car is new you'll see problems around 100k or so. I see blown stock setups all over nasioc all the time. "My motor blow'd up." "What're your mods?" "Stock, maintained it pretty religiously." :unamused: 'Course there's no telling how it was actually taken care of, but still.
So off the wall question, besides bearings what other major parts go out on 2.0's? When a major catastrophe happens.
On the "upside" it seems that many 205's that are mildly modded are lasting until around 120-150k under heavy to severe duty, that's not too shabby.
