So, you can see my list of mods below. I have a Cobb stage 2. the only thing on the engine side of things that I have and they don't is the K&N intake. I know cobb recommends against using anything other than the stock air box with a K&N panel filter. You can see that both my high end torque and hp are higher than theirs, and that I would attibute to the intake due to better flow capability. My big question is, do you really think that my intake could cause the huge difference in low end torque? Thats as much as 77 ft.lbs lower.
I dont think that the intake alone would make you lose that much power. Is your turbo spooling inline with what other STIs are running with AP? I'll let someone else more knowledgeable chime in . . .
When they say not to use an aftermarket intake, there's a good reason for it... might want to get your a/f ratios checked out if you haven't.
Had them checked when my car was dyno'd A/F's are good.... a little rich under high load, but I think that's just COBB being a little conservative. I think they didn't design it to use an intake because there is such a wide variety of them out there and the stock air box is not that bad.
I would never recommend an aftermarket intake unless you're seaking perminent engine management. As in, you're done modding the car. The oem ecm responds most appropriately to the stock airbox, which I have seen, dyno consistently higher on stock ecm's. What's your boost at? Is it possible yours is cranked slightly higher than theirs? It seems from your powerband you have a longer torque run before you peak and begin to fall to redline. You say your a/f s jsut fine, a little rich wouldnt cause this much of a difference either I cant imagine. Now, it is entirely possibly that every car will dyno different numbers, but they should be similar within say 1 std deviation, howeve,r with yours, I'd have to attribute it to something much larger, which is why I'm curious if you're running slightly higher boost than them ?
I'll do a street dyno and log file with my delta dash today or tomorrow. What paramaters do you think I should record?
ok...I hope these numbers will tell you something. The knock correction seemed high to me. the first log is in 2nd gear, the second and third log are in 3rd gear. thanks guys...I really appreciate the help.
I decided to buy a K&N filter for my stock airbox. I put them in and took out the K&N typhoon intake. I will do a dyno run at the track monday to see if I get my low end torque back.
