So this whining only happens when I turn the steering wheel. Maybe the powersteering pump? I topped off the fluid to full. But the sharper the turn the louder the whining. Any thoughts? I'm going to take it to SOK tomorrow to see what the problem is.

Research says it might be the AC idler pulley or powersteering pump. bleh

I have the same problem coming from the passenger side of my s2000. Slap your wife/girlfriend and it will go away!

Good luck w/it. Let us know how it turns out.

Yeah I'm gonna tow the car to the dealership tomorrow. I tried what you said and it didn't help. Hopefully it's just a bad AC idler pulley or something cheap...lol

I'd bank on the power steering pump. An idler pulley seems like it should be noisy all the time.

When I motor swapped my old civic all of the accessories (alternator, ps pump, distributor) died and were replaced within the first 12 months.

I am sorry this is happening. I will admit though, I thought this was going to be a post about the forum and its users the last few days...hope you get it figured out/fixed. I know how frustrating it can be to not know what the real issue is!

I have an extra pump but it may not fit your car. I believe the lines are different on your RS. You should just go to pull a part on Bufford and find one. Probably find one for $10

It's the stock WRX pump on my swap. Taking it to Steven at SOK in the morning, hopefully I won't need it. I'll give you a call though Mike. I'm hoping it's something simple and easy....(like headlight fluid or muffler bearings)
