Hello all, I'll start by saying I didn't know about this forum until Liltoua recommended it, thanks. I've been wanting to get into Subaru, namely the Impreza Coupe/Sedan. After lurking for a few weeks I've decided to join. I've always wanted one of these cars, and finally have some money stocked up. sadly, I haven't bought one yet. Anyway, I am part of a few other forums(non-subaru) and the Subaru well where I'm at is dry as far as what I'm looking for. Since I was little watching my older cousin play Gran Turismo I have had a strong draw towards the first gen Imprezas. I've loved looking at pictures and eying the ones that i see driving around and most recently the ones on campus. There are a ton of the wagons around here, roughly 20:1 from what I've seen driving around. Anyway, I do not have a Subaru, but hope to get one soon. What I do have though is a 1971 Opel GT that I am in the process of restoring and doing a full rewire on as well as a engine transplant. I'm not quite sure what people would want to hear about me as far as information, But I will just give a pic of the car I have and a little. I live in north ga and have some plans for when I get a Subaru. Most of them are minor performance mods and maybe some exterior pieces. I'm looking at a coupe and hoping it works out.:sx:
Right now it has a standard Opel I4, but I have a I4 from a 93 ford ranger (rebuilt with forged pistons etc) that I am going to be putting in it bolted up to a A4LD. There's a video of it in the GT that I am getting it from as well as the motor that is in it now if you're interested I've seen people stuff all sorts of engines in these cars. they seem to have been very underpowered when they came out. I absolutely love mine and I got one because my dad had one and I grew up in the passenger seat. It's definitely something you don't see everyday.
so all you need is a Rover 3.5L V8, and a T-5 5-speed from a 80's V6 Camaro which should be refreshed with a Liberty Straight cut gearset because racecar
Welcome. Nice Opel, brings up childhood memories. Every family had an Opel kadet or an ascona, people with money had the GT or a Manta. You want to sell it to get money for a Subaru?
A v8 would work if I was going to use it for flat land racing with a lot of straights. I'm building it for the mountains and curves. That ranger motor is a torque monster and I've been able to ditch corvettes, Porsches, crotch rockets, you name it on HWY 53. That, and I'm a 4cyl person, don't know why. I've seen too many a V8 with the firewall cut all up to fit a GT that end up on ebay half finished destined for scrap. It's hard to do right with such little room. If I didn't have a history with these cars, I might consider selling it. The Opel will always be my true love when it comes to cars, but the Subaru will always be a dream of mine that I'm hoping to make a reality. There's an Opel forum where they come and go, some even in GA. I know there's one on Craigslist, but as for mine, I couldn't put a number on it. If I did it'd be too ridiculous.
Yeah I understand, my 2002 Bugeye is my dream car, just everytime I see the cars I grew up with I get excited. The one on Craigslist is crap, I already saw it.
Beautiful GT! Where are you located? It sounds like you live close to me. I'm on the border of Cumming and Dawsonville, about 4 miles south of the outlet mall on 400
It's amazing how much we can get attached to cars. As for the one on craigslist. It's no where near the best, and way overpriced, but it might make a decent starter. The problem I've found is when people don't restore them and they just let them rot into dust. :wtc: There's one in Oakwood that has been sitting so long that there is nothing left usable and the body is cancer covered. Really?, I think I see your car driving around all the time when I go up near the outlets or down by Home Depot/Wal Mart. Hard to miss a bright blue Impreza especially with that exhaust note. I live about 10 minutes down 53 heading towards Gainesville.
Thanks, it was pretty easy seeing as you linked me right to it. The people on here seem very nice from the lurking I was doing while waiting for activation. Very similar to the Opel group I've come to love. I should be getting a 1st gen Impreza tomorrow if all goes well. Then the real fun begins. I'm hoping to find a ver6 spoiler. I heard that Bakemono makes a great one, but there are on hiatus or something from what I've been told. Maybe get some Cosworth parts to liven it up, etc. We'll see though.
I've seen one that is "stanced/hellaflush" or whatever people are calling it these days. It has no trunk spoiler but has one above the rear window and has the windows covered in stickers. There's a similar evo lurking around too. The evo is white though, IIRC the Subie is blue.
Ya that's the one I was talking about I believe. I've never talked to the guy but he works over at Nike.
That's Rome who works at Nike... I don't think he's wingless...or hella flush...or has stickers all over the back? It's been a while since I've seen the car though..
Are you in the 04-05 WRB STi? You should stop by and say hello. Eh it kinda sounds like me. I am wingless but not Hellaflush. I do have a AllPro Subaru and EcoAutoClean stickers on my windshield. So maybe?
Ya, I'm in the 05 that's in the lot every day. I've been meaning to stop by one day, I just never want to stick around the mall lol
Ya, I didn't think he was flushed but wingless with a few stickers. Only car I've seen around that's remotely close to the description that was mentioned.
Rome, your car is beautiful, but it isn't the one I was talking about, the one I see is usually around Oakwood. In other news, I am now the proud owner of a 1st gen impreza
Is there a problem with the matching? I'm not sure what you mean. The car is completely stock with the exception of the radio. I was always told the 1st gen was 93-01.Anyway, it's a 1999 Impreza L, The headlights have a broken mounting tabs and will need to be replaced though. I ordered a set of black ones(link) The picture is there. I can link you to it if you want?
