A few days ago my car started misfiring in cylinder number two. It's about 110k miles and I never have changed the spark plugs since I got the car (at 72k), so I did that yesterday with OEM spark plugs from SoG parts. However, the car still misfires. Next is going to be checking out the coils. If coils don't cost too much I might replace all of them since I do need to do a 110k tune up anyway. Afterwards maybe fuel injectors? It's hard to figure out if there is a vacuum leak with all these hoses D: Anything else I should try? The ECU was reset when I was switching the spark plugs because I had to disconnect the battery to be able to get the driver side out.
This 'just' happened to my buddy. He had a bad coil and bought an entire used set for $125. Coils are about $70 a coilpack new. Contact www.thekingofparts.com for those unless you feel like paying SOG $100-110 a coil pack. Tristan is the guy you want to talk to and tell him Coolrex sent ya....he'll hook you up!
Driver's front. Try swapping that pack for another and see if the misfire changes cylinders too. Siegel
I thought the coils had to stay in their designated cylinders? I'll try it out but I don't know how to tell if the misfire is occurring in the other cylinder without taking it back to auto zone, is it okay to drive on a misfired cylinder?
The coil-packs themselves are all interchangeable... If it's continually mis-firing, then I wouldn't drive it, if it was an occasional thing, or only at higher boost, then sure. Siegel
Your best bet is to find a local that wouldn't mind swapping all his coils so you can test them. That will tell you fast if it's the coil packs....that what I did. I let my buddy use all 4 of mine and his car ran like a champ.
swap the coils and see if the misfire follows the coil. if so, bingo. did you pull a code to determine it was misfire on #2?
I would swap 2 coils to see if it switches cylinders.Than you only need 1 unless you get a really good deal or just want to spend $
I pulled the code from Autozone on the way home from work. It misfires constantly and I do not have anything to pull a code with and the nearest place that will pull a code for free (autozone) is too far for me to drive comfortably with a misfiring cylinder. Because of that I will not be able to figure out by switching the coils if the misfire occurs on a different cylinder. But I really like the idea of swapping coils with another local. I'm going to give that a go at it before I try buying some new coils. Thanks for that advice Anybody live near MoG, in the Buford/Dacula area?
Well I changed the coil in cylinder number 2 and now it's working fine just fine! Thanks for all the help yous guys. <3
