i just noticed to day that my music collection is getting decently big. i am currently using media monkey because it has an option to automatically monitor folders for new music all the time. just wondered what you guys are using?
there's nothing old fashioned about itunes newb. plus you'd have to be a fanboy to use that piece of GARBAGE software. jesus I hate itunes :unamused: I'm running version 2.x of winamp
the only reason i dont like itunes is because of the amount of resources it uses...slows everything wayyy down
I really dislike iTunes as well, major resource drain. Im in the 10k songs range and my largest playlist is just shy of 1900. So, it isnt like it is really got a lot to do. It doesnt have the functionality I would like, but I use Zune software b/c of my Zune. Plus, I have a good number of .WMA files and itunes wont play them, but it will convert. I have been looking for something better as well.
media monkey is worth a shot for you then yardhippie, it supports ipods and .wma and also light on resources. I was hoping someone was using something better :\
^^jason I am sending over my 1.5tb drive for your music. As nicad says I hate Itunes, winamp for me too.
winamp, which also handles ipod now (since v5) itunes needs a team of real cross-platform developers, and usability experts.
As long as people are willing to add what they have that I don't, I am willing to share with all. I will get the full details tonight when I get home. Exact amount of tracks, size, etc...
Oh ok. I have 5500 songs on my mac book using 230gigs. Again, I use iTunes on that computer also ( back on topic) LOL
Official Numbers: ~4,050 Artists ~678 GB ~142,607 Songs Figured out how to check the bitrate in iTunes. The lowest bitrate I have found is 128, though most are 192 or higher
Cool, this will give me an excuse to completely redo my library. I have lots of stuff that I need to get rid of.
That is a bit much dont ya think? There is really no need to have all those songs and take up that much space is there. I bet you dont even listen to 90% of that music. I used to be like that too. Let it go man just let it go. Back on topic: Itunes, winamp and illegalwire:coolugh: I have about 1200 songs and I just make playlists with 20-50 songs that I actually like, plus the radio is good here and I have sirius
It can never be too much. Its not like a 1 TB harddrive takes up that much space. Besides, you never know who you will meet or what their musical tastes are. Even though a majority of what I have I will never listen to, I will keep it, and continue to add to it as I go. The CarPC is where I will be selective. I eventually hope to be able to copy over about 150 - 200 GB to the CarPC.
Been wondering the OP's question myself.. I have about 50gb of music, all received from torrents.. As you know, it comes in a million different flavors.. I find that Windows Media player pretty much sucks ass and doesn't like my downloaded music.. I've been recommended Media Monkey before.. So Winamp is good as well? I just need something to make playlists on, so I don't have to click on each individual song while trying to get a game of darts going... any suggestions?
iTunes is good with playlist. I enjoy the smart playlist feature it allows also. I haven't used winamp in years so I'm unable to give an opinion with that. Again, this is my personal preference.
Well I wasn't gonna try and join the pissing contest with Mr. 142k songs, but I gotta say that I've got 5,856, and I do listen to them all. I've got a folder that a buddy gave me, too, with another thousand songs, but I'm adding those one album at a time so I'm sure to hear them all and cut out any crap I don't want. Admittedly I only use iTunes because it came with my Mac, and I absolutely hated it at first when I was switching from Windows, but I'm much more than happy with it now. I think the genius playlist feature is pretty cool when I decide to use it, and I can play just about anything with iTunes. And if I can't play something, say a FLAC file, I can find a plug-in that will make it possible. That FLAC option came in real handy with the newest Mastodon album, too, because even at 320kbps I was getting a lot of hiss throughout. There's just too much rock for an mp3 to contain. Also kinda on that note, Apple's Lossless Encoding FTW. That said, the iTunes Store's feeble 192k max can suck it.
Ive got a good chunk of music that is in .flac but didnt know that there was a plug-in for flac for i-tunes. Where might I find this?
im in the 40k range using itunes. 90% of mine have album covers and lyrics in the id3 tag. there is a cool widget out for you mac guys called tunes text that looks up lyrics while the song is playing and automatically tags the song with them. also do any of you guys use the genius option on itunes? i found its great for making playlists on the fly. no more boring workout mix for me. i sync a new list to the ipod every day. also the remote for the iphone is great when having a party cause you can control your music volume and song from the phone as long as you have wireless. bet your media monky and winamp cant do that.
I read that there were a bunch of little things you can tweak in the file system or something that make FLAC importing possible, but I used Fluke because it did it all for me. I'm sure a Google search'll turn something up that can help out.
