my car is too hot, yeah baby

Actually not so good. My engine bay is so hot, I think it's vaporizing the meth in the washer tank. It's been going much faster than what it should. I've already got the turbo hot side and some of the dp shielded. But everything on my car has overheated at one point or another.

    I'm starting to think about

    1. venting hood (evo style, but to the sides of the scoop)
    2. heatshielding around the meth tank
    3. phenolic spacers for the intake, who makes these?
    4. extra hood scoop for the intake, ala early 300zx
    5. gasp, even a fmic
    6. oil cooler
    7. RCE cool brake kit
    8. maybe a radiator, not sure if it's needed now that thermostat is fixed

Any opinions/experience on these mods? Overheating ruined my last track day...

Go with a big fluidyne or similar brand. I've heard they do wonders for cooling. Keep the TMIC. Adding the FMIC in front of the radiator doesn't too much to help cool your engine bay. Sure it does give you a cooler intake charge, but your methanol will still be evaporating away. Oil cooler would be a good option as well. I would play a little with some "custom" brake ducting as well.

have you considered a trunk mounted meth tank? im sure hot meth loses some of its chemical intercooling abilities

the phenolic spacers and coolant bypass mod (check scoobymods on how to do this) should help. Most people say that the intake manifold is warm to the touch instead of seering hot after this mod.

I'd be afraid of the coolant bypass mod since I like playing on the ice/snow. Meth crystal aren't good for ya.

Thanks for the phenolic spacer link and pointers so far. If I could find a good way to fill the spec c trunk tank I'd go that route with the meth. I hear it's a PitA.

Isn't Mahdavi Motorsports a site sponsor? They're the local Hondata dealer...

Do what SS told me to do (and I need to get it done). Get a turbo blanet and make a 'diaper' for the meth pump and tank. Won't be pretty but it'll do it's job.

I know how you feel. My hood is HOT HOT HOT to the touch when driving.

heh heh. So does anyone know of a hotrod type bodyshop that could add extra scoops and vents to a stock STi hood?

Also, a graphics shop for some custom graphics. I'm looking for a bit of NOPI bling too.

Don't forget the BMW style vents on the side of the front fenders.
That would really help get the heat out yo engine bay!! :keke:

Just drill holes everywhere for the bee hive look....lol j/k.

I am seriously wanting the CWest CF hood for heat venting but alas no money.

lol, my 96 CRB900 came with a bunch of holes drilled everywhere, esp. the lower fairing. Not what I'm after.

I just covered my meth tank with some heat shield made by thermo tec.

I'm sure there is enough to do one more tank. It's not the purdiest thing but it does work. Before I could see the meth boiling after short drives.

You can have the rest of the roll if you want. I can't really use it for anything else.

There are some oil coolers out there that you can get into that won't cost a fortunre. But not sure that they are really gonna keep your bay cool. Another option is getting some form of venting going on in the engine bay like some of the hoods I have seen that have a vent up front to let radiator heat out. I think seibon makes a hood that has a vent up front as well as the scoop.

The hood with the vent in front like the Evo has is the WRC style hood.

Do I want to know what "pull my finger graphics" FF style is? Maybe color-shifting paint with tribal patterns and lots of sponsor stickers... ;) (kidding)

It doesn't make sense to vent the radiator then scoop it back onto the fmic. Something like this would work

    windshield
    /----------------------------------\
    | <turbo vent>...............< vent>
    | .............<tmic scoop>
    |
    |<ca>
    \----------------------------------/
    front of car

    ca - cold air scoop
    ASCII ART FTW!

That is essentially what the Cwest style hoods do. They have 3 vents on each side of the hood.

My only concern is rain and the water pouring on top of the intake but if I build my box like it should be it'll all be covered (the intake filter that is).

Brian you just have to make darn sure that if you mod your stock hood, that the shop knows what they are doing. I imagine it would be WAY too easy to screw that thin sheetmetal all up.
