I'm stupid. There is no reason for my speeding at all. 73 at a 45 is well... dumb. I shouldn't have been speeding, simple as that. I had a Rocky Mountain Radar detecter in the car and it didn't go off and I was less than 200ft away from the cop that was stopped the side of Hamilton Mill Rd. when he said he got me. When he first came to my car he said I went 74, then came back with paperwork saying 73. 28 over. Under 21 years of age. Court date May 2. No job. Hardly any money left. I am super screwed now! Well, just thought I'd share. Moral of this story: DO NOT SPEED EVER.
Yeah, I got pulled over going 56 in a 35 last year after having my license barely over 6 months. Luckily the officer let me off. Hopefully the cop won't show or the charges will be dropped or something.
awww man that sucks bro.....I actually haven't gotten a ticket yet (knocks on wood) but it's inevitable, hopefully they'll be lenient on you..... 28 over sounds kinda bad, your parents pissed?
My parents are super pissed. Regardless of the ticket, I am going to start paying for my insurance by the end of the month. They are probably going to make me pay for the WRX instead of one of our older cars like the original plan was.
sorry to hear dude, but youre not a ticketvirgin anymore!!:naughty: you live you learn... etc.. I got a ticket for going 97 in 70 going down to key west last spring it sucks cause i was gettin OUT of the way of a 18 wheeler that was swerving. pissed? yep paid ticket? yep lesson learned don't get pulled over by a state trooper and tickets are expensive!!! the crazy thing is my insurance went down??
No harm in fighting a ticket, unless you f' up and say something wrong, but read this: www.blurofinsanity.com. Maybe it will help save some money in the long run.
My advice.. show up in court, chances are they'll cut it down big time without you even having to do anything.
A friend of mine suggested I take the definsive driving school before the court date. So I might do that.
i would like to say hey your license is most likly gone, however im not because you have a chance man and we are gonna be positive here! its ashame that this happens but it gets the best of us hehe. Risk you take owning a fast car. I think since its your first offense they will probably drop the speed or somethign most likly. Just show for court dressed nice and present yourself well to the judge and you will hopefully be alright.
Outstanding! All of this is true. If you have a class D license, you're probably pretty screwed. If you have your class C, you've got a good chance. Give it a shot either way. If you do defensive driving classes, bring your course completion paperwork to court. At any rate, show up on your court date (officer will not be there for your 1st appearance), speak to the Solicitor (or whoever is prosecuting) before the judge enters to call calendar, and 99% of the time you can work out a deal. Especially if it's your 1st ticket, you have a lot of bargaining room. Oh yeah, and don't dress like a punk. My little brother got popped doing something like 90 in a 55..... I thought for sure that his license was history. But he spoke to the Solicitor, and because it was a first offense, he was in school, and he took defensive driving, he paid a slightly higher fine in lieu of having his license suspended. Good luck!
What do I say to the Solicitor? I'm not clear on how to try to make a deal with him. I have heard that they are being nice recently, but I'm not going to count on it. My friend's exgirlfriend, 17 years old, class D lisence, kept her lisence at 30 over. Same friend got arrested for the night for reckless driving and kept his lisence, 18 class C. Me, I'm 19 class C.
i would go in because its basically gonna be you and the solicitor and maybee a couple other just random workers. They will ask what do you plea. Well in your case you will say guilty. Then they say do you have anything you would like to say? then you state your case. I would do what blueline says since he is a police officer. I would do the defensive driving class before you go to court. That IMO will put you int he clear fo sho.
I got a ticket on 285 doing 80. The fine was like $300. I went to court, pleaded guilty and they reduced it to $150
25 over in GA reckless driving. they may let you plead, No-loe ?sp? (no contest). you get 1 every 4 years i think. i got popped in Virgina doing 21 over the limit. 20 over is reckless driving there. i can't drive in virgina for another year. shucks!
i got 99 in a 55 work zone, about 5 years ago in my h22 92 accord. facing 30days times 2 (60). the best way to go about it for me was ask for a continuance until my officer didn't show up for court and then ask for a "prayer for judgement". it's best to have a lawyer when requesting one. what that entails is you donot get a traffic violation for the next 4 years or you have to deal with both sentences. plus you have to go to a 6 hour def. driving class
WELL THIS IS MY STORY sorry for caps i started driving 3 years ago.. since then i have 13 speeding tickets, 2 improper lane change, 1 car wreak, 6 months of suspention and now my latest ticket on dec 31th 2005 and got me a free suspention for 1 year.. and i'm too slim.. for chances, judge wont even hear my case, sended me a letter saying it's suspended for march 06th so my story reminds me something any1 eles stupid enuff then speed.. or eles keep in the limit, let other ricers fly by.. if they wanna try you take it to the tracks.. i hope i will be fine.. later
Brother we are living vicariously through you! In Chicago you couldn't go fast if you wanted to. The damn potholes alone would rip your wheals off and the cops were everywhere. Big revenue. Here the roads are like butter and the cops are pretty infrequent but damn don't get cought! You have officially slowed me down even more, if that's possible. My question is since I am sober as my car is stock and it's stock let me tell you! Where the hell are the cops at 3am on a Friday or Saturday night. My old lady and I went dancing last Saturday night and on the way home 400N at 2:30am it was like a whose driving drunker contest. That's where I got a bone to pick. So you're gonna catch some kid hot rodding here and there Ok we all got cought doing stupid crap and honestly still do it once in a while, but what the hell is it with allowing people to drive drunk. Talk about a danger to the community! That's how people get killed around here when they're not dying in an apartment fires or getting riddled with bullets. Don't tell me the cops don't know about it. It's as common on a weekend night as peachtree is the name of a street! C'mon it was like take your friggin pick. We saw cars weaving in and out one guy going forty half asleep puking out the window and another races by going 120 on a cell phone. Where's the cops? You could have found a three legged mule humping an ostrich on the side of that road before you saw a cop. Even with the construction. Very confused this place.
i myself have seen similar situations... however please be respectful of our fellow officers... there are not as many officers as our community needs and they can not be everywhere they are needed.. however if an officer suspects that a driver is drunk, i am sure he/she will pull the suspect over and verify their suspicions
One time I was cutting through a back road, of a back road. It's closed except for the people that lived on the street (according to a sign, but no blocks). There was an accident on the main backroad, so I took the other backroad which is a little narrow and is not painted on. Since I rarely go there and each time I did there was nobody on it, I started just to weave back and forth stupidly and violently from side to side at 35 miles an hour. Sure enough a cop is behind me! Except lucky for me he was trying to get to the accident scene and just passed me. I'm 100% sure he saw me do my crazy weaving. Gwinnett County cop car too. anyway. That seems like a silly job. "I sit my car and look for speeders!" I don't think it's a proper way to protect and serve. Just my opinion though. It is easily argued that speeding is the reason people get in accidents, and that it should be more enforced to protect other people on the roads, etc etc.
Alrigh Przy, Ive got it. We're gonna go take the SRDEC together This will be your driving school You are in school right? You attend classes correct? You are not failing anything? Good student gets you quite far when it comes to tickets Ive seen. 1st offense is a good start for making the ticket that much eaiser. Yes, you could please no loe contendre however, you need to hope you do not get a ticket for anything worse in the next 5 years. Can you gamble that? Basically no loe is you admitting you messed up, and you go pay the ticket. Insurance does not see the ticket, no points. Ive had a few friends that got pulled over doing rediculous speeds (104 in 55, 120 in 70, 115 in 55). All of them kept their license. With the 120 case, they worked it out that he did not lose his license. He did go to jail that one night, but the judge worked it out so that the bail he had to pay ($1000 +) was enough for a first offense and dropped the ticket fine and did not suspend his license. However, he does have an assload of community service. If he gets another ticket though within the next few months he is absolutely fucked. Nevertheless, he did keep his liencese.
Just because you didn't see a cop on the little stretch of highway you're on doesn't mean we're nowhere to be found. The police department has much more on it's plate than just DUI's on Friday and Saturday night, let's be a little realistic. Most departments have a DUI Task Force consisting of anywhere from 2 to 20 officers, depending on the size of the department, and I guarantee you that every single one of them is out trolling around on Friday and Saturday nights. If I were omnipotent, I too could scour metro Atlanta and find hundreds, maybe thousands, of drunk drivers at 2:30 in the morning. There are many good strategies to nab drunks: being at the right place at the right time, selective traffic enforcement, road checks, and concerned citizens calling in to report possible drunk drivers. Truth is, we are not omnipotent, we cannot see everthing or be everywhere at once. My question to you, if you saw all of these heinous acts happening right before your eyes, why didn't you just call the police? Do neither of you have a cell phone? If there had been an accident and someone was injured or killed, I would hold you just as responsible for witnessing these acts and failing to do anything about it. Don't forget, this might be my job for 10 hours a day, but as a citizen it's your responsibility to ensure the safety of others if you're able to, not turn a blind eye to it and pass the blame as you've done.
Yeah I agree in a sense. Atlanta cops are (compared to Chicago) way underpayed and have a atleast from what I can determine based on the news, their hands real full. As far as making a professional determination on whether someone is drunk or reckless ... I would not necessarily include that in public domain. If someone was to the point where it was obvious they were going to cause an accident then I agree. So I am not bashing cops in Atlanta I think they are some hard working Mofo's especially with all the guns, gangs and incredibly bad traffic around here. What I would recomend is once in a while like once a month or once every two months they set up some random sobriety check points on a weekend night at entrance ramps close to buckhead or some of the main thoroughways. Publicize the results afterwards and I bet folks will think twice about driving drunk after that. The psychological effect will last for a while so you don't have to do it every few weeks. People expect those things on the holidays but if you do it randomly folks will think twice. It is cost effective and time efficient and if there is press coverage afterwards based on the results it creates a long term psychosocial message. I agree with being publicly responsible as a citizen. Three weeks ago I heard what sounded like a woman screeming for her life in our apartment complex. It was loud as hell. I stuck my head out of the door went out on the balcony not a soul was around. Didn't seem like anyone else came out to look. So I said frig it and called the cops, reported it and waited for the cop to come by to take a look around. I coud have turned the TV up and forgotabout it but someones life could have been in jeopardy. Don't know what became of it but atleast I felt like I did something.
Ah yes, you could just roll around Buckhead and possbily find 100000 drunk drivers every Friday and Saturday evening. Its pretty damn frighting driving around there sometimes.
Seriously Matt, I would advise you to take bluelinescooby's advice since he is a police officer. I think that would be your best bet. Mark
I know that Gwinnett and Cobb County PD only have roughly 650 officers, so, if you think about it, that is really a small amount of officers to cover a very large area..... Mark
ALRIGHTY, Just got done with it. I ended up pleaing Guilty. I finished the Defensive Driving School and brought the paper with me. I didn't say anything and the judge asked me my age. I said 19 and he said, "Oh, well this might be a problem." So I sit down back at my spot instead of the spot where everybody else went to wait for paying the fine. I'm thinking, "Crap, I should have pleaded No-loe." After about 15 minutes of cases a/the solicter comes to me and takes me outside for a second to talk with me. She asked me my age, and she said that I have no driving history/record. The speed was dropped to 23 (though I think there is a possibility of simple math error, because I too originally thought 73 in a 45 was 23 over (it's 28)), but I'll just go ahead and believe they dropped it for me, becasue the Law is never wrong...!?). I keep my lisence, and my fine was not something crazy high. It was 200 dollars. I barely said anything. All I had to do was pay a 200 dollar fine. This means I can get a new clutch by the end of this week!!!!!! And thank you for all your help and support. <3 wrxatlanta.com!
too bad your insurance premium will cost you a thousand dollars more than it does normally until you turn 21.
never plea NO-LO until u have killed sum1.. a plea of NO-LO comes every 5 years so save it for a chance to get out of sumthing horrible.. and that dont mean u can kill sum1 either.. i'm just giving example .. btw my insurance is 680 a month for 1 wrx and 140 dollers every 6 months for my mothers car and 20 dollers per month for my bro's car sucks to be me right now
Matt I wish I had seen this earlier but will give out my secret to the WRX Atl members. I have used this trick several times and it has ALWAYS worked. I found an online tire calculator that will show several tire sizes and the effect on your speedo. I just played with the #'s till I was off by the margin that I was given the ticket. In every case the ticket was reduced to not go on my record or have any points applied. Put on your game face when you fo to court as they may see right through it but some say I should have been a lawyer.
you can plead no-lo all you want just not to the same charge in 5 years, so you can plead no-lo for speeding once and no-lo for failure to maintain lane etc. its not just once and your out.
Make that until you turn 25. I was paying $300/month on top of $470 for the car itself and it was killing me...not really but it was enough to complain about. Turns out women aren't WAPCE (Women are Pure Concentrated Evil)...lol....I told the insurance company I was married, which I will in a few, and the insurance dropped from $300 to $130. On top of that my deductible was dropped from $1000 to $250 and my coverages are maxed....I can't ask for more And I am 24 until this October which my insurance should go down even more then! THis is also with the soon to be wife on the plan as an inexperienced driver! Hahah
I would have them adjust that deductible to the highest allowed it will lower the monthly payment alot.
congrats matt! you definatly did it the right way...they probably felt you were responsible ya know? anywayz lemme know how the clutch goes.
I am glad that things turned out well for you Matt...By the way, why are you guys saying meow after my post, what is that all about?. Mark
You said that on your 3/8 post...What does that mean...that is all I am asking... Mark Whatever.....LOL... Mark
:wiggle: Don't take any offense bro..... It's all from the movie Super Troopers..... if you haven't seen it it's well worth watching
