Well, I had to miss NOPI to get there, but it was worth it! My best time before was 1.48 from previous track days. I knew it could be faster. :naughty:

Driving quick I seem to go 1.49-1.50 with these mods. When I put the hammer down and get a clean lap I was consistently running 1.47's with a few laps being 1.46. The best was a 1.46.45.

I think coil overs would knock maybe a second off because I have to wait for the car to get settled in 1, 4, 10b and 12. I need a sponsor...

    notes:
    - I had a HUGE 4 wheel drift thru turn 1. (~4700 rpm in 4th, somewhat long but definately hanging it out) Sooo fun. I got black flagged so the guy could say he didn't like my line :hsnono: but it was worth it. Well I guess I didn't intentially do it.. ;)

    - Another one of those "Ferrari Challenge" race cars was there(Think $200k race car plus big rig, 4 support people, etc.). But this time the driver sucked and was holding me up in braking areas and the corners. Then the pecker would take off on the straights. He finally started waving me by in the 2nd session. In the 3rd session he spun and hit the wall putting the power down turning onto the back straight. Everyone was shaking their heads as they hammered the broken carbon fiber bits out back in the pits... :wtc:

    - 640hp 650trq Porsche GT2 was the schiznit. He was broke for most of the day, but I got a fly by on the back straight in the last session. :eek3: He was a fast driver too.

    - Representing! Several spectators were asking about the STi and saying it sounded awesome going down the front straight. Or they like the big drift in 1...

    - I had to put a call into Scott. He thinks I'm running into boost cut. Only happens in 5th and 6th. Very unpleasant.

Edit: The photos may be copyrighted so don't distribute please. And I might be having some fun with the less speedy folks who think they should be in the "A" group, but everyone's just trying to have fun/get better. :)

Yeah i had alot of 4 wheel drifting at roebling road. Issue was that i had my tires pressures running what i usually do for autox. I had realized that my tires would be running even hotter than i ever had expected. I deflated all four tires by a few psi and the rest of the day they were fine. Yeah a track seems like a huge equalizer, we had a C5 Z06 there, which both Steven and I passed. The driver was not very good! I'm glad you have a good time. I'm still wondering if want to do a RA Track, that last turn into the pits makes me very nervous.

Did I mention I always give rides to people? Each car is allowed one passenger. This time a co-worker met me. He'd been spectating RA 15 years and it was his first time around "at speed". He loved it. Same with every passenger I've taken so far.

Did I mention passengers don't have to pay to get in or ride along?

I'd be interested in riding along next time I Have a chance to make it out. Brian, do you have any pictures from the track?

What group did you run with? Was it an RA track day?

Group A. Less people and *usually* better drivers. Group B is for slower cars. Group C is for convertibles & new folks.

The track day is run by the Panoz track school.

No problem, I love giving rides. Just don't eat a heavy breakfast please. The photos are now linked in the first message.

And if someone has a good video camera that would be excellent! In car footage or watching turns 1 or 10a would be fun.

I saw that Porsche GT2 at one of Siegel's clinics at Little Tally. It was ridiculously fast then and he said he was getting bigger turbos put on after that.

Looks like fun, I've run Road Atlanta enough in Forza and I'd like to try it in real life.

Yea, the RA school is the one I usually do. Less class time and no in car instructors but still fun.

I'm just sour at the fact that they raised their prices and removed one 30 -minute session. It used to be $225 for Sat and one extra session.

Nice pics Brian. I was there too! I've got some more pics and video clips here http://www.paulstamatiou.com/index.php/2005/09/17/road-atlanta-track-day/ , if anyone's interested. It's a shame the GT2 was only on the track a brief while. What happened was that he had a loose intercooler hose and had jacked it up but took the jack down before taking the jack stand out so the car fell and snapped a rear linkage. Somehow he was able to find a replacement part though.

I was also able to snag a few laps with the white RX-7... that was fun. He was doing ~400HP at the wheels with 15psi and about 140 on the back straightaway.

Glad to hear you had fun @ RA. My dad was running the z28 camaro. You were definetly killing a lot of the stuff out there, just a bit more HP and suspension and you'll be trailing the 'vette and 300zx. Last fall the vette ran a 1:38 according to my stopwatch, give or take a second.
What was said about passengers is correct, just talk to the drivers a bit and they usually will let you grab a ride. Every track day I grab a ride with some of the A class cars just to experience different cars, like this weekend I was with the 300zx when his brakes went out, what a thrill. 140mph straight through turn 10A, missing a panoz hotlap car by 2 feet, through the gravel, into the grass, back on the track and into the pits, I'm glad to be alive. Get out there and have fun, and bring a camera.

it was 335 RWHP, not 400 n00b, but still beat the hell out of everything cept the 300zx and the C5 vette.

Nooo.. the RX-7 guy most definitely said 385HP.... and by SOTP it was that fast, don't forget the blow off valve swoosh, that adds more HP

I believe that 385hp for the rx-7, he was pulling me on the back straight.
    I don't think the 300zx really had 550hp, maybe 420hp.
Yes, my wife timed that vette at 1:38 last fall too. Not too shabby ;)

I can't believe the single video posted up is when I backed off to let the vette by easier. It was practically a traffic jam right then. You're not supposed to pass 2 people at the same time so I backed off to let the vette by me. And he wasn't going too fast since the ferrari was still going to be in the way. Where's the video from when I passed the ferrari, mustang, or 300z ? :naughty:

Someone come out and time me 10/8-9th. :D

    My wife won't do it.

I was only able to get a few laps timed at previous track days. This time I bought a TIMEX Ironman w/ 50 lap memory wrist watch ($30 @ Walmart). It has a nice big lap button. And stop watches are clumsy in the car.

The finish line was very busy and I kept forgetting or couldn't hit the lap button. Once I started using the bridge on the back straight I was able to accurately record each lap. Good time to push the intercooler button too. And reflect on how the previous lap had gone. And what was for lunch... 8)
