I am purchasing an in dash DVD/Navigation headunit and im reading over the installation manual. The manual mentions an installation step involving taping into the ECU for speed detection. It is an inline splice.Has anyone experienced this with thier navi installation ? Anyone know what wire this this ?

    03 wrx....

    Thanks in advance.

    pEd This ain't no Piccadilly!

Follow this link and look for the ECU connector that has the speed sensor in it. I would go ahead and
solder it to the wire though, don't want any problems down the road.

It looks like it wants the same wire an AVCR would want.

which company/model did you go with? I have kenwood kna-g510, and I didn't need to connect speed sensor at all.

Pioneer D3, It is not something that you have to install but Pioneer recommends that you complete this step to provide the best overall use of the Nav functions. It most likely uses the current speed pulses somehow with distance traveled to pinpoint your location a little more closely.

edit : this is taken from the installation manual

In my experience, it's 99% accurate without speedsensor. Sometime when it loses signals in downtown, it sometimes shows inaccurate speed, but the nav system quickly corrects it.

Sweet, I have read about this for this unit but there was was never a pic like the one you provided.

Is the harness in the pic for a D1/D2 or is that the D3 ? EDIT : Nevermind just went to the site you linked.

    Thanks for the info
