Currently: My car sits downstairs in the garage Both front CV Axles are removed Ran the car in 1st through 3rd..the sound is terrible. Its a cracking, clunking, heart wrenching sound :wtc: Couple days ago: Car started clunking while driving and shuddering when braking At first i thought it was the driver side bearings (hopeful thinking) Long story short: she broke down as i was attempting to go up a small incline. It sounded like someone took a sledge hammer to my gearbox and shattered it to pieces :wtc: I need help. I am out of warranty and now royally screwed. What are my options? hnoes: '04 Wrx 2.0 80k miles
ummm...buying a replacement tranny. Probably cheaper than rebuilding what you have. I will have one in a few weeks
I've been looking around and calling a few places so far. The prices I'm hearing are more than I had anticipated. I need help in finding a used tranny for a discounted price. Where would be a good place to find this? Anyone know of any Junkyard perhaps? personally I've never seen a WRX in a junkyard but u never know...
Another thing..I found the part number 32000ag470. What other year WRX/STIs trannys will fit my '04 WRX?
any year tranny will fit technically. but just straight mounting with no extra parts would have to be 02-05 wrx only. 06+ wrx will require different clutch, and slave cylinder (iirc, push type vs. pull type). same goes for sti/6-spd trannies, they will bolt right up but you will need different axles (depending on year), rear diff (depending on year) and clutch/driveshaft
Any 02~05 USDM WRX 5spd transmission is a direct swap. Expect to pay anywhere from free to $2000 for a GOOD used transmission. Normal prices vary from $600 to $1500. I would not pay more than $1500 for one with a good warranty and low mileage. Keep looking on ebay and pull-a-part places. Totaled WRXs are everywhere right now. I have ~7 WRX transmissions but all of them have broken gears or ring and pinion issues.
Essentially anything other than a built 5sp or 6sp will break again and there is no guarantee these won't break. It all boils down to money. Unfortunately you chose one of the most expensive tuner platforms to play with. I would say if you have the money to do a 6sp swap, do it and you may be OK! If you don't (and you own your car), swap in a 5sp and dump that Mthrfckr and get yourself something that doesn't cost a few grand to rebuild half the drive train. When you are ready to spend money like it don't matter get another WRX or Sti.
Damn Mike, just give me the Bugeye and go get that Yugo you were drooling over. That way you'll never have to worry about having enough power to break anything but a sweat when rolling down a window. On top of that, you can get some Fiat 124 badges and slap on the sides of it and it will be a match made in WOP heaven.:naughty:
I'll throw those badges on that faggotass Ranger that's been sittin' in your shop like a Smithsonian fighter plane, hanging from the ceiling, for the past "how many decades"! Oh ....wait, isn't your "Dogbox" getting rebuilt....again....DOH!
A few years ago when I ruined my tranny I had it rebuilt for $1600 (02 wrx 5 spd). I probably could have picked up a used RA set for less.
Breel! Oh....I respect you swapping out and parting out; your DOGBOX: in the name of the Haiti rescue service of the deceased labial, moisture, rescue society. Since you are such a gladiator in the name of: WIN! I can only add: http://labiastretching.net/ Aaay,,,,, Mickey Love's you!
Thanks Mike, haven't had a good laugh from this site in a couple of weeks. As for the "dogbox" I'm just doing that as a precautionary, have to split it apart regardless to put the LSD front diff in.
