Ok i was just down at SOG, and i found out that my cat is busted on the inside, however they didnt want to touch it b/c it was jimmied on there... let me explain. When i got my up and down pipe i went to some local shop that installed them for me, however in order for me to leave with my car taht day they HAD to put a cat onto the car its law, so what they did is cut piping and welded new flanges onto the pipe in addition to the cat to make everything fit. SO they recommended that i get the prodrive stage 3 kit that they happend to have instock to completely replace my setup now, or they said i could go back to OEM, or i could go back to that stupid shop and have them jimmy some more.... So should i bite the bullet and pay the 2300.00 !! to get the parts and have them installed, and not worry about being limited to taking my car to that jankie shop, or go to taht jankie shop and have them jimmy some more shit?!

Scott if you have a sec i have a few questions about the actuall stage 3 at your store, does it include everything that is offerd online like the entire turbo back exhaust, up-pipe, y hose, and new ecu??

Any and all suggestions are much appreciated

    thanks

2300 is alot for an exhaust system, if it comes down to replacing the exhaust parts you have, there are many cheaper options available. Prodrive is a very nice system, but I would say it is a bit overpriced. I have one of the most expensive exhausts on the market and it cost me about half. For 1700 I got a full Scoobysport exhaust and EcuTek tune.

I believe we're talking about the whole kit for $2300, not just an "exhaust system". Right? Prodrive Stage 3 is catless up/hi-flow cat down, mid-pipe, axle back, silicone intercooler hose and ECU reflash.

The Prodrive kit is 1900. It includes uppipe,downpipe(catted),3rd cat eliminator, intercooler y pipe,ECU reflash and axelback.

They quoted me 500 for labor. I decided I wanted to do it my way and chose not to go this route. It will make about 230ish to the wheels reliably for years though.

In the end it up to you. I would call Jason Porter at Topspeed and talk to him.

Where was this? I've never heard of a law saying that the car has to be catted to sit in a shop. I could obviously be mistaken but still...sounds; well it sounds sorta odd.

Regardless, that is entirely too much to pay. I would shop around for alternatives unless for whatever reason you are a prodrive junkie.

Stromung or Scoobysport. The Stromung will be easier to get though. Also depends on what size piping you want to use.

I am putting in a 3" divorced wastegate downpipe(no cat) and a STi uppipe. I am gonna put in the 3" catted hi flow 3rd cat pipe later, leaving the stock one for now.

I have the Stromung dual tip axelback and love it.

If you have an axelback that you like you can get the downpipe and 3rd cat pipe with high flow in the 3rd cat pipe for less than $600 from Jason.

why didn`t you just tell them the car was registered in a county that doesnt require emissions?

or have it put on the back of a truck. theres no way i would let someone cut something into a new exhaust.

Without cats I can see Topspeed doing it all for you for $7-800 depending on what parts you choose.

They are VERY VERY VERY busy this week. So they won't beable to get to your car till some time next week. Mine is getting squeezed in on Sat.

Call Jason. He will be there till 7(actually much later but they won't answer the phone). Tell then Richard Long sent you. ;)

yep... its a tanabe catback... dunno what brand the other components are or when he plans on selling

by the way, i've spent a total of $2080 in parts for up, dp, catback and ecutek... plus labor... the prodrive stage 3 also includes the silicone y-pipe i believe... so for the full kit with install, 2300 doesn't seem too bad
