Need help with initialization conncector

I'm trying to load the AP stg2 map onto my 2000 forester which has an '03 wrx motor. I have the two green test connectors and a black connector adjacent to them. This is what it looks like:

I tried jumping the black connector with a paper clip by inserting the clip ends into the far sides of female connector. Not sure if I was doing something wrong but I got nowhere.

I'd like to get this resolved soon since I don't want to keep driving around without a proper tune (catless up-pipe and downpipe).

    Thanks.

Any chance of finding a wiring diagram for that area? I don't have one handy.

Did you jump both of them? One of the Cobb videos I just watched has them jumping all four contacts on the black connector. Is there a clear connector down there as well? There shouldn't be, but its worth a shot.

Can you send me a link to that video? That sounds like something I need to try. And there is only the black connector, no others (aside from the testers).

    Thanks Alex!

I was referring to the video where you saw them jumping the contacts on the black connector, that is the one I'd like to see.
I only tried to jump the two outer contacts. I'll try tonight with the inner ones as well.

They show that in the video I just linked do they not?

They just plugged the supplied jump connector into the initialization connector (white) which is what I am missing.

Right, but I was under the impression the black one could be used in the absence of the clear one as the clear one only started in 2003?

That I can't tell you. I used to have an '03 wrx but ran ecutek and didn't need to mess with anything under the dash. But I do know the previous owner said the motor was from an '03 wrx, I guess the harness must be '02 if the clear connector started in '03.

I guess I'll just have to try more paperclip antics. I really wish that connector was easier to get to. I suppose taking the seat out might help, but I'm too lazy.

Can you not just take two pieces of wire and create two jumpers and plug them in instead of trying to hold the paperclip or whatever it is your are doing?

Try placing a floor mat outside on the ground so that you can kneel down and look up beneath the dash.

OK so I went to radio shack, got some spade connectors. By bending the ends I got them to stay in place. I took two and connected them with a peice of wire. Put them both into the black connector. Still won't upload. I think I'm out of ideas.

I may just have to get a custom tune.

edit: just thought of this.....Anyone near Gainesville have an '02-'03 wrx? I think I can just hook up my ECU, upload the map, and then swap back.

That stinks. I'm not well versed enough in this problem to really offer any additional suggestions beyond where we're at currently. The ECU swap seems like a good idea.

I think I may just get an opensource tune and sell the AP. Its cheaper and I'll have one less thing to tinker with. Not to mention a more powerful and reliable car.

Odd. Well that's unfortunate. Good luck with it from here :)
