Okay NELH (non-equal length headers) or ELH (equal length headers). I found out my stock manifold has a hairline crack in it so it 'has' to be replaced. I have 3 options.... 1) Grimmspeed ported and polished and ceramic coated stock manifold with their mid cross pipe 2) NELH aftermarket. There are a ton of brands out there but all have very different opinions by the narks at Naisoc. Also got to worry about cracking. I think Doug's famous Lucy is running a DC Sport NELH. 3) ELH. If I get a ELH it'll be the Perrin one most likely. Downside is I got to swap the oil pan unless I can get the WBR ELH. I'm scared to swap the oil pan and get a pickup that is gonna crack on me like a lot of the STi's out there are doing. So what does WRXAtlanta say? I know what WJM is gonna say.....stock Grimmspeed FTW...
I could care less about the suby rumble.....if it makes more power more efficiently across the power band then it's all good. ELH on a big turbo suby sounds like sex! At full song it sounds like a sport bike....yum!
Scott what you say? ELH or no? I'm wanting to do this with my future GT35r plans considered. I'm thinking hard about the new Maddad ELH. Oh sorry for the harrassment yesterday....I was digging hard for information
I recently ordered and installed the GrimmSpeed Xover pipe w/ coating. I must say that the part is awesome. From the butt dyno I can feel a quicker spool. I am ordering the Manifold ends this week (should have done it at once). Good Luck!
Any reason why. Proof of statement if you provide one? Seems like ELH will spool faster and make more power but as with everything else Subaru related everyone states a different opinion.
I believe the first 5 USDM STi's that went over 600whp had stock headers... I've seen more cases of headers costing power than making it... Siegel
Scott, have you read up on the Grimmspeed PnP on the stock header and hi-flow crosspipe? http://www.grimmspeed.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=60_33_34_51&products_id=102 If so, what are your takes on it?
Is your butt dyno calibrated???:rofl::rofl: Not bashing but really that means nothing and is irrelevant info.
Siegel just convinced me to go with Grimmspeed. Also remembered my conversation with LiquidForce about how much a pain it was when the headers he used to have would cool off....he lost like 20 hp. Thanks guys.
When are you ordering? We can save some $$, lol. I need the manifold ends only. That xpipe is well made!
Uh now I don't even know if I'm getting a Grimmspeed kit...the cost is dangerously close to the cost of the high end stuff since I have nothing to turn in for a core.
Sweet. Would it be worth it to get the thermal coating on the stock manifold? It's like $50. I can put up with a leak until then.....
WJM just told me he would give me some. We can't combine shipping dude...I'm in SC. WJM what's the dealio with Aug 18th? Are you gonna be this way or something?
Well Grimmspeed didn't please me too much with their offerings and I called up Rich at Maddad. We worked out an excellent deal on his new ELH and I will be the first to test and fit them on a 2.0L. I doubt it will fit the 2.0L oil pan but I found out I can keep my 2.0L pickup tube and slightly modify the bracket and install the 2.5L pan! Whoo hoo! So yeah my car is gonna lose the suby rumble but it'll sound like a Porsche. Hey if I can't afford one then I'll make the car sound like one....lol The Maddad ELH are not even on the market and the first 25 of them are all almost spoken for. I'm getting mine thermal coated too. The test car was a 2007 STi with a MadDad single cat turboback consisting of a V2 Downpipe / Whisper Catback. Everything else about the car was bone stock. Dynos were taken same day. Base dyno, header/uppipe installed, dyno again. 20hp/23tq gain with absolutely no tuning. I've already been told that there is no way that is true so we'll find out If the WRX makes over 350hp on Topspeed's dyno then we know something is up
I know where this is going. I told you so. There, I've already said it. If the ELH wins, then...well, I'll admit to being wrong.
I have a full Grimmspeed kit (v2 crossover pipe, uppipe, and ported manifolds, all thermal coated black) If anyone is looking for one, let me know. I bought it for our STi, but never put it on, and the car is back to stock now. When I was doing research, this seemed like the best solution.
Headers left port Friday. Rich should be getting them end of this week if TS Fay doesn't hold up shipping. That means I'll get them week of Aug 25-29th. Then I'll be seeing the guys at Topspeed Sep 4-5 if all goes well installing and Siegel is available.
If I buy a header for the new car it will be one of these.. http://www.thermallogic.co.uk/page3.html Just searched funny thing is I found this on EBAY http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-...022QQitemZ350089124863QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V Looks like TODA and M2 had the same company build their headers. This is the same header I run on lucy fwiw
That looks crazy Doug. We'll see if there are any gains from teh maddad unit. I'm getting ceramic coated too to hold in heat.
