Alright so I'm thinking about adding a Suby to the stable since we're about 1-2 weeks away from havin a baby My wife has an E39 BMW that was a hand-me-down from her parents, and it's kinda crazy how good of condition its in (2003 530i with only 64k on the clock) but honestly, i think we need a more family-oriented car and I've always been a huge fan of the Outback wagons... So, I'm gonna list the BMW on some of the Bimmer forums and see where that goes, since it's the last year of that body style and has such low miles, should be easy to sell... And I'm thinking about buying a new (or used if they're out there) Subaru 3.6R Outback Limited... now the question becomes... Where should I get it from to find the best deal possible? I'm sure that it's a better situation for me to sell the BMW first, because I'll never get even close to what it's worth from a dealer, but where can I get a smokin deal on the new/used suby? Thoughts? Cheers...
will the bimmer bring enough to outright buy that Outback? I would find a way to end up with what you want without a payment. Congrats on the baby!
there are quite a few dealers around here, your best bet isnt to just go to one but instead check each one for pricing - tell each dealership the lowest price you got so far and watch the bidding war. thats how i did it good luck
These all sound like good ideas... Re: Bimmer pricing Here's my thoughts with the BMW... this body style was the same for like 7 or 8 years... and 2003 was the LAST year for this bodystyle... SO if someone likes this body style and is looking for a used one... mine would be a PRIME candidate because it's been dealer-serviced pretty much from day 1, it's only got 65k miles (so less than 8k miles/year), and it's the newest version of that body style you can get... oh and no accidents or bs For those reasons, I feel like it'll bring between 14 and 15k... clearly not enough to buy the other car outright, but close enough to where we can get some 0% financing over the next 3 years
from what others have said, Classic will not negotiate at all. Kennesaw will negotiate a little. Troncalli is the parent owner/dealer of Kennesaw, so they won't negotiate much either. A few have said buying from Stivers was the best car buying experience they've had, and they are willing to negotiate. SoG....I haven't seen/heard much from them lately so I dunno what they do anymore. Edit: SoK has a ton of 2012 3.6R's in stock...Classic has a few, Stivers only has 2, and SoG only has one.

He tried SOK first as he got a Forrester from there and long story short he ended up going to and buying from Stivers. He said they gave him considerably more on his trade and also worked with him on the cost/payment of the outback
Stivers is the newest Subaru dealer in town so they are doing their best to establish themselves. I hope they keep it up and don't start being like Classic. I got good a deal from SoK on my '11 STI. I had bought my '08 STI from them previously so that might have factored into it. Last time I talked to SoG they were not negotiating. This was when I was comparing prices on '11 STI's back about a year ago. They had the highest prices of all the dealers I talked to.
unfortunately, subarus are a very popular vehicle down here. Kakies is always talking about how they can't keep any on the lots and they're always having to broker dealer trades to get some in. For this reason alone, you won't be able to negotiate much...the demand is just too high. I would focus on getting everything you can from the bimmer, be it private sell or trade in. Remember, if you trade it in, you will NOT have to pay taxes on the trade in portion. Therefore, keep in mind that a 13,000 trade in is actually worth 13,910 at a dealership.
Very interesting points... I went to Stiver today... and I had a pleasant experience but honestly, I'm a bit confused. Details: So this website says that the invoice price for 2011 Outback with Nav and moonroof is $29,474. Stiver has a "Service car" as designated from SOA... meaning they got a $5000 concession on the car (they said off of MSRP) to use the car as a service car for VIP customers or whatever... so the Finance guy showed me the printout of the Service car stuff and it shows the $35,856 MSRP and said, we can sell it for $30,856 BOTTOM PRICE... sounds just OK.. except for the fact that it had 14k miles on it... Thing is, I know these darn things are popular so I'm not really sure if this is the best I'm gonna find... not to mention it probably got driven like a rental car for 1 year AND it's BLACK... I am NOT a fan of black cars... but for a deal... I can be swayed... Thoughts?
check out carsdirect.com, print it out and bring it to the dealer. That is what I have always done and the dealer always matched the prices. This includes on my wife's 2012 Sonata. The dealer wouldnt budge at first until I showed them the same car on carsdirect and then they agreed to give us the car for the same price. MSRP PRICING: $35,465 INVOICE PRICING: $32,939 service guarantee CarsDirect Price: $32,939 Pricing as of 1/7/12 in zip code 30092
IMO if you don't want black don't settle for black no matter what the deal is. I learned the hard way with my BMW M3. I didn't really want a dark colored car and the M3 wasn't perfect....the front bumper had a few imperfections as did the trunk. However the dealer knocked off $5000 after much much much haggling and after I said fine I'll find another M3. From day one I regretted not finding a flawless car. Now I know you are looking at newish cars but still.....GET WHAT YOU WANT FROM DAY ONE! Else you will likely find yourself severely regretting it. Black is one of the most beautiful colors on a car but its also the hardest to clean and it shows EVERY imperfection and swirl it can.
