Hello everyone, i got my 02 wrx 6 months ago and i'm loving it. I have a magnaflow catback ordered and thinking about getting a prodrive catted DP. My car has 160K on it, but it was completely stock when I got it, well I suppose it still is. All i've done so far are aftermarket headlights, tint, and radar detector, momo shift knob. The previous owner drove it hard but took care of it, used mobil1 synthetic oil, the car runs strong and i enjoy it every day. I had a talk with the guy at topspeed in atlanta and he told me not to worry about modding it, he suggested I should get ready to invest in a new engine block since mine was so high mileage(implying it was liable to blow), 2.5 he said. I wanted a little more power going stage 2 with cobb's AP. Do you guys think this is a good idea, if not, what would you suggest I do; i really don't want to do any major work to the car in the near future, turboback and stage 2 is all i've thought about, not much beyond that. Let me know what you guys think, i'm open for suggestions.

yeah buy a 2.5 first then go stage 2. That way you have a back up. Especially If it was driven hard by the previous owner. Better safe then sorry.

I'd also recommend considering looking at new transmissions depending on how much power you're wanting to put down. The 02 trannies are glass (coming from a previous owner myself) and again with that high mileage it could be a simple matter of a basic missed shift on your part stock as is now and that thing could go.

with that many miles from the previous owner, you don't know the history. save your money for a new long-block...better to be prepared than suprised

I agree with the above... However, I don't see the harm in going getting an AP and going Stg. 2 now.. If the motor is gonna go, its gonna go. The AP will work on the new motor if your current engine blows. Who knows, the motor could last a long time...

Cbe, apv2 small bolt-ons will all transfer over...so support the economy and start buying. Just don't act suprised and blame the patys IF the engine pops

    cool

Thanks for the input guys, i'll see how the car holds up in the next months, pay it off, and go from there. One more thing, for stage2 all i need is DP, CB and AP, right?

I would do the up-pipe too... which should be done at the same time as the downpipe. It doesn't add too much horsepower, but gives you quicker spool. I noticed a huge difference doing the TBE + uppipe, stg.2 in my 03' Wrx... Probably a bigger difference than the same upgrades in my STI.

Definitely get the UP! If it still has a catted up, it is likely to go eventually and that means bad stuff for the turbo. Is the turbo still the original? If so, it is probably close to its life expectancy as well. If the car has been well maintained 160k is no big deal. Mine has 138 on it and still going strong. Block is holding compression, but the turbo has been replaced once already.
