Well I am about to get some new pads and have been reading up on what to do with the rotors.

Right now I have NO vibration, NO pulsating, NO steering wheel shimey, etc with the current rotors. I will be measuring them to make sure they are not down to the minimal thickness. I was thinking of just cleaning the surface real well 3M discs / sand paper, and cleaning them up real well to get the old pad material off.

    Turn them?
    - keep hearing very mixed opinions about this and to do it as last resort.
    New ones?
    - Depending on the thickness prefer not to go this route. car has not been tracked and only AutoX a few times.

    Opinions? Suggestions? etc...

If there is enough thickness there is no real reason not to turn them, especially if someone who knows what they are doing does it.

What is the min. rotor thickness? 28mm front, 18mm rear?

I believe it was Greater than 22mm or 23 mm.

However, if you end up going to someone who doesn't know how to turn them, then you get noises where there weren't any before. This happened to me when I went to some random good year shop. They charged me $10 per rotor. Other places were charging up to $35 per rotor, and at those prices it would make more sense to just buy new rotors.

I personally have my rotors turned every time I change pads if there is any wear on the rotors at all. this is usually once a year. I like a fresh rotor surface on my new pads. they bed in a lot quicker.

i never turn my rotors, and go back and forth between street and track pads. i've heard (not sure how much merit there is to this) that you don't really need to turn your rotors unless you've got some pretty bad grooves forming.

Went from stock pads to Hawk HP + my 06 WRX at 16K and did not turn the rotors and never had any problems.

I just replaced the front pads (HP +'s again) at 32K and I did have them turned. The rotors were smooth but there were some heat spots on them. I was on the fence about having them done, but they only removed .25mm of material. I guess the $16 was worth the piece of mind considering the pads are $120.00.

I plan on replacing the rotors when the current pads wear out.

You should be able to just be able to take the half hour to swap out all your pads and NOT turn the rotors with no troubles...IMO
