Factory rotors are near their minimum thickness. Probably less actually. Time for new rotors. Any good reason not to stick w/ factory? Car will be full track in 6-8 months. I have been running Carbotech pads on the OEM rotors.
I like the factory rotors, but they are expensive. Anybody have any luck finding a good blank aftermarket rotor?
Tire rack has some blank replacements for $85 each or slotted for $119 each. That seems to be a pretty good deal. Checkw ith some of the vendors on ehre if they can give you a better deal.
^^Is this for a set of 4? Each meaning F or R? You can get a set of slotted online all 4 for about 120-160, I have yet to take a set to the track and am curious as to how they will hold up, right now I have them on the bugeye with the cheapest pad I could find and will NEVER get a cheap pad again! WOT in 1st or 2nd is deadly on the street.
I'm very skeptical about cheaper aftermarket rotors. The car will be run hard at the track and I know too many people with "name here" rotors that were cheaper than stock, supposed to be better, and end up warping under the heat. I need OEM or better. I have to say the OEM rotors have never had any kind of problem with deformation, and I've run them hard.
I would say definitely get something two piece of better vented than the stockers since you track them ahrd. I have set of DBA5000 GOLD two piece for sale if you are interested, they are the kangaroo paw deranged internal vanes. I was about to put them on iwsti and nasioc but locals get first dibs. I went with Stoptechs so rotors are new in box but no use for me any longer. Link more info on the rotor design here : link
Ming's are nice but will break the bank. Yes the ebayers have warped a bit under harsh road conditions and probably wouldn't handle the track. BG got me front brembo blanks for 88 F Can't remember the rear price, you may want to hit up all the vendors here and see who offers what.
No, this is for each rotor for a STi, not wrx....and there is no way in hell I would use the rotors that are $140 for a set of 4 on my Legacy. I like to stop when I need to and wouldnt risk my car or life on some crappy rotors or pads.
I would go with a DBA product. I have been pleased with what I have seen and driven on. 5000s may be overkill when the 4000s would suit you just fine.
those that ming has are extremely nice, Jeb's running them on his car now with stock brembo's (off 4sevens old limited). They are retardedly nice, but you have to pay for them... from what i've heard, cross drilled is usually overkill, as long as they're vented you should be fine. I've tracked mine really hard (ate through a set of carbotech xp12's in ONE track session) on stock rotors and have had no issues. Either way, you're on the right path - don't go cheap with brakes, they're your lifeline
well to refresh my memory I went and checked out my 5 sets of rotors, the ebay slotted set I had faired MUCH better at TGP with Hawk HP+'s than my Brembo Blanks did with XP 10's and XP8's at TGP. Despite my earlier comment that I had not tracked a set of ebayers, I have and they did better than the Brembo's. It must be mentioned this is on a WRX and stock calipers...I have since upgraded.
Buddy's ebay rotors warped on his evo first time they were on the track. Even after cryo-treating. My stock pads/rotors/fluid had fluid failure after suspension and power upgrades (at barber) but never failed when car was all stock. Stock rotors/XP10+XP8/Motul has been bulletproof. Going to see blindfold for those dba's
