so my re01's are finally at the wear bars and I am searching around for a new set of tires...so far i think my options are: falken azenis @ $107 ea at edgeracing.com dunlop direzza sport z1's @ $130 ea at tirerack.com re01's @150 ea at edgeracing.com i really want another set of re01's but i read in a few tests that the dunlops were a better tire. has anyone tried these out yet. or i could just throw a wrench in the whole thing and go with the crazy cheap falkens...but i don't think they will last as long (my re01's lasted 25k suprisingly) any suggestions/reviews from you guys??
I have the Dunlop's and could not be happier! Incredible tire in the dry and also in the wet. On my old shittastic tires I could easily break the tires loose in the wet, especially the rear. On these Dunlops I've found it just about impossible at my current power level. I've only gotten them to hydoplane once and it took an impressive amount of running water to do this. In the dry they are very sticky and I'm still not sure just what kind of limits I have with them. Sadly as it's getting colder the tires become less effective at gripping, but still quite good. When I first got mine they were kind of loud and howled a bit when at highway speeds, but after about 5k on them they have quited down nicely and I really don't hear them anymore. Even when they break away they don't make a ton of noise, usually you just slide a bit. (granted this has been rare and have not done this extensively) As for the Falkens, I don't have any first hand experience but from what I have read they don't last very long and while they grip nicely at first they start to go downhill after that. Most noticeably in any wet condition as the tread stops being as effective. The Re01r's are most similar to the Dunlops, but the Dunlops are noticeably cheaper and according to the Tirerack a better tire anyway. So the Dunlops are what I recommend.
I am considering re760 seeing that I really need tires as well. The inside tread of my rear re01rs is bald...needs a proper alignment as well The re760's seem to have a good combination of performance with a nice tread wear and pattern Keep us posted what you go with!
I loved my kdws on my wrx. Greg hated his said the sidewalls were too soft. I thought they were fine for everyday driving and the occasional mountain run
i think i am going to go with the dunlops...the kdws seem like a nice tire but for the same price i can get the dunlops. thanks for the suggestions i am probably going to wait a month or two until my tires are a little more worn out. since its winter and the only thing i do is drive to and from work/school.
can gte usually beat/get close to tire rack prices?? i will most def go to them for mounting/alignment...just not sure if i will get the tires from them
I have the Nito Neo Gen on my car i love them... I would say call GTE he will get you a good deal and they will ride great...
These suck, btw. I'm running them now and the RE070s (granted, a much much better tire) were FAR superior in every way. My biggest complaint with the 760s is they roll way to much (after an auto-x event the sidewalls are showing some where down past the tread) even w/ 28-30 psi. They also cause a little shake in my steering wheel, even after having them shaved / balanced by GTE. I want two sets of tires so I can have a track / auto-x / mtn run set, as well as another set of good road tires (I put ~25-30k / year on my car) that I can get good mileage out of. Point being, 760s will not be my next set...would not recommend.
