My terrible luck with tires continues... So I'm cruising down the highway on my way to florida for vacation today when something...I have no idea what....finds its way under my car and blows out my right rear tire. Like big time. Two gigantic craters in the inner sidewall. It got kinda hairy. Luckily I was only about 15 miles from home...great way to start my vacation. So I threw the spare on and turned around back toward home (at EXACTLY 50mph...:unamused. I was bummed...I hadn't been on vacation all summer. So ok....let's see what we can do. I find a local tire chain that happened to be open on sunday AND have 4 BF Goodrich GForces in stock in215/45/17. These: I bought them (Summer job to the rescue!) knowing I'd heard good things about them. They gave me a good price and took great care of me even on short notice. They have the same treadwear rating as my old generals (good for 30-35k when taken care of), and I got a free lifetime rotation and balance package with them. :naughty: A couple hours later I had them mounted and balanced and continued on my way. Let me just say....Wow. I think I've finally realized what "You get what you pay for" really means. The Generals that came off the car had served me pretty well, but they were NOT wearing well at all and were really not good for the car's handling. The BFGs are amazing, however. They give so much more feedback through the entire car...even through the seat you can feel the road. They grip very well, and the car overall just feels so much more planted, balanced, and confident. They flex much less than the generals did as well, and you can really tell. It was like getting a sizeable suspension upgrade. The car rides a bit more harshly but I kinda like it...its more communicative. It feels more like a WRX and less like a Cadillac. lol. I just thought I would share. I finally have some kickass rubber. My car is pretty much transformed. I'm just really excited and I figured you guys would understand. Hopefully my bad luck with tires stops now. Cheers!:wavey:
If you think those are good, just wait until you do get some REAL performance tires. I've experienced those in several different sizes. Barely decent for the price bracket. Stone cold they are slick and slide you around all over the place, hot they are super slick as they grease up fast. But mid temp they are pretty good, however they dont stay there long and will heat up fast. Just remember that when charging the curvy roads. Where to in FL?
i got the same ones, and ill completely agree with WJM. if pushed very hard they will slide all over the place
Dude, you need to invest in a warranty! I got one from Discount tire on all 4 tires for $60 because I am prone to catch foreign objects. I'm just waiting for a tire to pop so I can get a whole new set:naughty:
discount tire warranty ftw!!! I've got one more yoko avid to go until I've replaced all 4..ive had my wheels/tires for about 4 months now. lol...
Like dana said, your best bet is to get the road hazard warranty. I dunno how many times that's saved me from buying new tires. Usually they're 40 to 60 more for the warranty, but would have covered you in this case. Only down side is you have to go to the same company that you purchased them from.
the road hazard ONLY insures ONE tire. so if the other ones are half down.. you still have to buy 3 more.
For $20 more a tire you could have gotten the new Dunlop Dirreza Star Specs, which would be a much better performance tire. I would definately try those for you need set.
Sorry to hear about loosing a tire... bad way to start a road trip. Could have been worse, you could have been broken down on the side of the road and picked up by this guy: When do you get back in town? We should race around the neighborhood! Rice up them 'burbs!
