so last week the day came were my car turned over 100,000 miles. im excited because it has gone this long without any major problems. my question is i am thinking of up grading my turbo to a big 16g, 18, or even a 20, i am currently running a vf34 and i love it, just want a little more kick. will it just be stupid for me to run that much higher turbo on this high milage of a motor and tranny. any thoughts or experiences are much appreciated.

I would say it has more to do with the condition of the engine than how many miles on it. I have 124k on mine and wish I had the extra cash to throw on a super16g.

It's about time for that timing belt...

yes to it being stupid to spend that much $ on that little HP gain. It cost me 1500 (DB18G and tune) to go from 306 to 342. Dont get me wrong I love that extra power and had I not had money burning a hole in my pocket at the time I would NEVER had done it.

If you dont have meth put that on with a custom SS tune and you will save a grand.
    Just my 2 cents.

That's kinda where I am. 40HP for $1500...? That's great and all, but without my 6spd swap it'll make me run slower because I'll have more wheel spin (and I have too much as is). Better to save it for the 6spd!

i don't think the millage has anything if u upgrade the turbo. It all depends how u drove the car during those 100k miles.

If your happy with you tranny/suspension I would do a motor. Your Vf34 will work mighty fine on a hybred.

Honestly with a 100,000 on a 5sp tranny, I might start from the bottom up before adding more power, just my opinion, (unless you have a 6sp).

Just for the record I got my DB big 16g for $550 with just a couple of miles on it. I am sure you could sell you vf34 to supplement the cost of a tune assuming it is in good shape!

    TRUF
It is not a matter of IF but WHEN the 5mt will let go.

on the 6 spd note.... i have been looking around and a couple of people told me that it is cheaper to do ppg's in the 5spd than to do a whole 6spd swap unless you find amazing deals of course.... is this true?

It can go both ways. I've seen complete 6spd swaps go for under $3000 on ebay and on other forums, then its a matter of installing it which everything bolts right in.

EVERYTHING BRAND NEW from a dealer its a $9000~$12000 install for a 6MT (Spec B, 04~06 trans, later 2007 trans are cheaper tho).

The PPG's are like $3000~$4000 for just the 1st thru 4th gears and then the cost of install, which is usually $1000 or so, to get it done RIGHT thru Andrewtech.

Time for a timing belt FIRST.

IMO, I wouldnt upgrade the turbo any more w/out going to a 2.5 block. Why? Lack of low end power and top end reliability on the EJ205.

CoolRex's engine has some ubber special JDM black magic, so his doesnt count.

^^ I tend to agree with will here. putting that money towards a new motor, then a new tranny first would be the smarter move. trust me, i've been there/done that
