OK, I feel like doing something small-ish to the car. Currently have: Rear sway from an '02 sedan Fastline rally flaps New shiny wheels and tires STi pinks VF34 P&P Perrin TMIC Perrin uppipe Helix catted downpipe Prodrive axleback Boost/oil temp gauges Turbo wrap Perrin ic hoses Thinking about: Short shifter Any suggestions? Not looking for anything big $, but I have a desire to do *something* to it. Protune will happen soon.
looks like ur good with power... i'd focus on suspension... you could: 1) get springs: better handling & looks 2) might wanna get rid of the 'shiny' tires
if you get a short shifter stay away from the kartboy..i would suggest getting the actual STi short shifter..I agree with milo though..some springs would compliment both handling and appearance
i would say springs. I just put mine on and the lowering was very very minor, but the handling is 10x better Good luck
kris, what's up with the kartboy ss? something you ran into? i haven't had/heard any complaints thus far. either way moose, a ss kit will greatly improve the feel of the tranny. the stock bar and bushes are sloppy as shit.
guess it was just me that had problems with the kartboy. It was the first mod I got for my car and it made 2-3 shift grind and 4-5 grind. as soon as i took it off it didnt grind anymore. :dunno . moose you could do a transmission mount..that made a very noticeable improvement on my car
Eh? I had the STi short shifter on my 01 RS and it was $$$$$ and a PITA..... took me like 3 hours to pull that whole stupid linkage out, and the difference wasn't that great. I had Kartboy on both my WRX's, takes maybe 30 min to do a full install, and has fantastic results. Kartboy makes some excellent stuff, I'll be putting the full Kartboy/TiC shifter and bushing combo on my STi before too long. Moose, as for springs, I vote for Prodrives
I was just reading up on springs a bit and that does seem like the best option should I go down that road.
I saw you have the upgraded intercooler but did you do anything about the scoops internal parts. In other words did you do anything to ensure that air hit the entire surface of the IC? I've been looking for a way to do that with my 06 rex since I recently installed an STi intercooler and only about half of it gets hit with fresh air.
i'd say go with the prodrive springs... nice and progressive. unless you're gonna be a trackwhore when you grow up and buy coilovers later on the tranny mount is a good way to go too. there's a lot of small dollar (relatively) things that you can do that make really nice improvements.
I have the Kartboy, and although I have never had any problems with grinding like Kris, I don't think it is anything great. I had the STI Short shifter in my old WRX and it felt more solid. I would really like to try the Perrin SS for its adjustability. The Kartboy is alright, definitely a big improvement over the stock, non shortened shifter, but just doesn' have that solid feel I liked with the STI SS.
there is a reason some people say stay away from kartboy:squint: i just got my kart boy from the group buy on our fourms and my car model and everything was correct 02 wrx(simple) then the shifter came in i was happy about it, then the nightmare happens when i install it, first it's not a direct fitment to my 02 wrx, we had to cut the sides where the bolts and nuts go in to attach the gear's pully to, cut it enuff so it could match the stock shifter, wouldn't go in until we hammer smashed it in.. thats my story with kart boy shifter, maybe micheal sent me a wrong one or maybe they come like that, now it's installed in my car, 1/2 inch shorter then my stock shifter, a little bit un ez going in 3rd gear..
It should have fit directly, thats what I never understood. I am sure you could have sent it back to Sakari and thad them look at it. Anyways, back onto topic, you are looking for springs that dont slam? Look at Prodrive. However, prodrive is eibach rebranded, so you could go straight to them as well.
don't skip on braking department. With all those power mods, you can get upto high speed pretty quickly. You should balance out the braking power with your higher engine power.
hey moose, if you want some springs that handle great but don't slam your car as low as Alex's then go with the Whiteline Control springs. I love mine and they make a hell of a difference and I can still go over speed bumps at a good pace I think www.mastrowrx.com still has a great price on them. yep I checked and they're still $169 and about $14 shipping
I can try and get you some pics moose. I need to take some anyways Those guys at mastro are cool down there, if you call them they may work you a deal. they offered me the flatouts for $228 if I wanted them but I went with the controls. maybe they would knock 30 off and go halfway with you.
