Has anyone ever heard a noise like this coming from the AC compressor? I am almost positive that it is related to the AC compressor, because the noise speeds up and slows down when I turn the AC on and off. It doesn't happen all of the time...it is random, which makes it hard to diagnois it when I am take it in to the dealer...come to think of it, I guess I could take them this video. anyway, take a listen. it sounds like a leak to me...
No, the sound doesn't change with the throttle, the only thing that effects it is turning the AC on and off...believe me I have been trying to track this one down for a while now. For a little bit, I thought that it was an exhaust gasket leak, I even went to the trouble of getting new exhaust gaskets and changing them, but when I pulled the manifolds...there were no carbon diposits that would indicate a leak. Besides that, I have two new gaskets in place, and the noise is still there. It comes and goes, and there is no real consistencey...like outside temperature, or engine temperature...it is very random when it happens. Sometimes it sticks around for a few days, sometimes it only lasts a few minuites. On the bright side, it doesn't appear to have any effect on my power...I just want it to go away. wierd. On a side note, I have noticed that my AC seems to be having a little trouble staying really cold, especially in slow traffic. I have checked the refridgerent levels and they are in the green. Granted, it has been hotter than the ass crack of the high school lunch lady lately, but it still seems like it is having trouble staying consistently cold. I am not really familiar with how an AC system works, but maybe it is related. I wonder if there are any seals on the inside of the compressor that can fail, that might lead to a pressure leak and consquently a hiss...I am sure there are...it is an air compressor, it has to have seals that can fail.
i didnt even see the compressor turn on or hear it kick on and off. hard to tell without actually seeinf it in person.
That is actually an old video of the noise, before I noticed that it changed with the activation of the compressor, otherwise I would have demonstrated that in the video. I would love to bring it by, but I never know when it is going to happen or how long it is going to last. ho-hum.
