well i'm at 2922 miles currently and i have quite a few questions 1. 1st oil change free from dealership or am i wrong? 2. i might do this with a friend and save myself from the dealership fees so is it safe to go synthetic now*does 07 subies have synthetic already?* 3. anyone recommend which brand to use? lol now that i've burdened you with all these q's, i'll go play some DiRT!
1) I have no idea if dealership gives a free oil change..Even if they did I would do it myself. 2) It will be safe to go to synthetic. Most vehicles do not come with synthetic from the dealership. 3) Mobil 1
i would run it once more with synthetic blend till 7500 car still breaking in geta quality filter - i prefer Purolator one get a fumoto valve to save yourself future hassles I only use Castrol Syntec 0w-30 - personal pref ( ithink i bought everything within 50 miles of me)
Do you know who makes the OEM filter ? there are only a few major filters in the market and most you buy are relabelled from the major mfg. depending which is onsale or on myshelf I will either use purolator pure one or WIX and now i have a bunch of Bosch I have enough fitlers and oil for about 12 oil changes @5k OCI
The oem filter is the only filter with a drain back stopper and a bypass valve....I would only use the oem filter...i was wasting my money on the k&n oil filter prior to being educated about this MOBLE 1 Allways!!! and the oem filter...
Fumoto is fun, I enjoy it. Certainly easier although many say it isnt perfect considering it seats somewhat further up in the oil pan than the stock plug. I run 10w-30 m1 however it isnt fully synthetic thanks to the most recent suit and I will be changing on the next oil change to something different to see what I think. It so rarely if ever gets cold enough to necessitate the 5w
I was going to change over to the GC (German Castrol) 0W30. The only place that carried it locally was Autozone. I have come up empty on all of them near me. There is a non Gearman made 0W30 in its place that no one seems to know about. The only was to know is to try it and do a used oil analysis. Want to be a guniea pig? To save yourself some trouble, I would go with something else. After just a bit of research I will use the Mobile 1 High mileage 10W-30. It is a bit thicker than the standard M1 10W-30. The penzoil Platinum is also highly thought of, but has apparently within the last year changed from full synthetic to a semi synthetic. I am not too sure of the verdict for the newer PP.
pulrolaor makes the oem filter for subaru. the oem filter is designed specifically for the subaru engines. no other filter is designed the way that the oem filter is, so i would stick with the oem filter. whatever oil you use you must change your oil every 3,000 miles. subaru has just recently changed the services intreval for oil changes on all turbo models to 3,500 miles instead of 7,500 in the services manuals. also check your oil every time you fill up with gas to ensure that you dont ruin your engine. expecially with synthetic oils because when it burns it burns clear and you may not notice it. if you are running your car atleast 1qt low or lower on oil you run the risk of starving your engines bearings of oil when you go around turns. if this happens you will begin to hear knocking and will have to either repair or replace your engine.
As far as oils go I focused more on oil base stocks than brands, and after some reading I chose to use a true synthetic ester based oil. I like that this oil type is generally used in aircraft powerplants, and that esters like to bind to metal which helps cold starts. A major downside of these oils is that they're a bit costly due to how they are made. What I am doing may be overkill but I'm looking at it as some sort of extra engine insurance. Motul, Redline, and Amsoil make ester based oils in case anyone is interested.
+1 for oem filter, bought a 12 pack so I don't have to worry about it. Used to run Mobil 1 but switched after a few changes.. it was burning quick and came out dirty as crap. Switched to Castrol Syntec and it doesn't burn, comes out clean(fairly) after 3K... Waited 2 oil changes to switch to synthetic.
I will not ever use Mobil 1 ever again. Just search for Mobil 1 in any of the engine forums on nasioc and you'll see that proportionately more people spin bearings with Mobil 1 than with any other oil. I always thought it was good stuff and I have heard that the higher mileage Mobil 1 provides better protection but I think I'm just going to stick with Royal Purple, Amsoil, or Redline from here on out.
it was not hard to get because usually when i need it Autozone has it Then one day i found out that they may no longer carry it so the buying spree Was on sale with free Bosch filter and Autozone $10 for every 5x$20 spent I went from store to store within 50 miles radius in 3 days and cleaned them out. I have at least 12 oil changes and 4.5 qts is sufficient for oil change and i may add a tad before 5k miles I do not plan on following what subaru or anyone says for OCI. I let my oil analysis do the talking. Why waste good oil when it still has plenty of ingredients to protect your engine. Every car is different so each should follow what the oil analysis says.
here let me help you search http://www.google.com/search?q=oil+...ient=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
What he said. All of the OE filters are produced in Japan and shipped here. Again, you cannot go wrong with OE. I would HIGHLY recommend staying away from Mobil 1. If you purchased your car from SOG, the first oil change is on us.
Just to clarify... 1. Free, if you purchased the car NEW from us (SOG). 2. Wait until 5k or later to switch to syn. I would highly recommend dealership oil changes until you reach 60k miles, that way *IF* by chance you have an issue with the engine, you have the dealer to back you up (records and such). Otherwise, if you do your own oil changes...you are SOL if something happens. 3. I highly recommend Castrol GTX for the normal dino oil. Motul 8100 Synergie for Synthetic. At SOG we use Penzoil 5w30 for our normal. Works fine as long as you change it every 3k miles (n/a or turbo). We also have Penzoil syn 5w30 and 10w30, as well as Mobil 1 10w30 and 5w30.
I do not know of any local stores...have to search. boxer4racing.com has it. My other contact that used to have great prices....doesnt exist anymore.
From a quick search...it looks like boxer4 has the best prices...by 50%. Most places want 13~14 per quart for the synergie, and $45 for the 300V. Boxer4 is 1/2 of that. BTW the 300V is the best race oil I've ever used.
Ok, http://www.p1-performance.com/products/motul/engine_oils Has Motul as reasonable prices....and all kinds of information.
Its awesome stuff. I have had engine failure with Mobil, castrol and valvoline, all oil related. Ever since I've started running Motul...I have had zero engine failures due to an oil problem.
I guess if your tracking then its worth the extra for oil...I just think 14 bucks for a qt of oil is insane you guys are making me want to swich from mb1 though...:coolugh:
lol,ys i did buy the car from SOG but i just did the oil change myself with mobil 1...and with the bad comments about mobil 1 it kinda makes me worry but how many oil changes are free if you get the car from SOG
well now that a buddy of stripped the oil drain bolt, i have to get a new bolt but about the fumoto valve, but i've heard of stories where it just unlocks on the road and oil goes everywhere, how hard is it do unlock it? and yes i got saved on the oil change thanks to my hook ups at ntb lol
I had one of the magnetic ones on my 04 and It developed a small crack around the head and it took 3 visits before it was noticed...dont know about the valve though
