*NOW* PLEASE! PLEASE! Check your oil. *NOW*

We had another '05 STi (bone-stock) come in this morning with less than a quart of oil in it. We're trying to find out when his last oil change was, but we've had people come in with 7,000+ miles since their oil change. :hsnono:

There is a good chance the owner is buying an ENTIRE engine (block, heads, cams, etc). :wtc:

As much as we like the business, this is not how we want it ;)

At least it wasn't a rotary, doubt one could go past 3k miles without running bone dry ;)

I used to have one. They are not that bad. Depends on how hard you drive it. 1 qt per 3-4K miles is average. I still don't understand why Mazda will not use a separate oil tank for the rotary. It seems so logical. Separate tank and a sensor to tell the drive/owner when to add oil to that tank if they forget to check.

This is scary. Is it the owner just not taking care of his car or what?

I used to check the oil on my old Camaro all the time, but since I've gotten the Baja I don't think I've ever checked it myself - I just bring her back to SoG every 3k miles (give or take a hundred) and get it changed. Thanks for the warning though, I'll start checking it myself regularly.

Was there an obvious leak with the STI that came in dry?

Just checked mine and it seems good. No white spots either so i'm guessing no coolant in the oil. Always a good sign.

    Thanks for the reminder scott

heh, this reminds me of my Integra. I'd check and add oil every time i filled up with gas and sometimes more often. It would loose oil so fast that VTEC would not kick in because oil pressure was too low :-\. Thats one thing I LOVE about my car now :). It ALWAYS stays full!!! I remember the first month I'd check it every other day and do a little dance each time cause it was always full!!!
