i dont really blame mobil 1 cause i had castol in the car when it happened, i blame it being 5w30, its just too thin for how hot it was.

You'd better have used a new oil pan/pump/sump/cooler/oil lines.

5w-30 is not too thin unless you over temped it (240*F+ for an extended amount of time).

is that the coolant reading or the oil temp reading?

    Oil temp.

SUBARU's operating temp for oil is 200~210. Really, anything over that should be considered 'too hot'...however, if you are running a high grade racing oil, it should withstand UP TO 240 w/out issues.

However, most other high performance cars have much better oil coolers from the factory....and run 175~185 oil temps.

SUBARU's little oil cooler (liquid-liquid type) is more of a warmer-regulator than a cooler. It gets the oil up to temp FAST and regulates it at 200~210. Works GREAT for street/autox use. Anything more, replace it with an air-liquid unit.
