Quick background: 2004 STi, car is at 68K, multiple track days and mountain runs. It has always burned a bit of oil, I'd usually check it once/month and top it off, and I'd check after a driving event and top it off. At 44K it was tuned, making about 55-60 WHP over stock, on the stock turbo. Before that it was all stock. After tuning, it used more oil, but not over a quart/month. Last year it started blowing big clouds of brown smoke at WOT and losing peak boost. I got a DD, then had it looked at. It passes leak down all all cylinders, but the turbo looked shot so it was replaced (VF48). Car was re-tuned and runs strong. No more huge cloud of smoke, but oil droplets etc on the rear bumper, and it's still going through about a quart a week if driven daily. I ran hard in the mountains yesterday, and it went through about 3/4 quart in 200 miles. Runs fine, though it sporadically pulls timing at WOT, which it was doing at the track last year. Can it have good compression rings and bad oil retention rings? Any other ideas? I'm going to put the same post up at NASIOC and IWSTi.
"a little" Brand new VF48 from Subaru Whatever I get for the '04 would have to pay for what replaces it. Used M3 maybe....
Have u checked for leaks anywhere? You may have blowby if u run the car hard and the oil could be shooting into ur IC pipping or out of your crankcase hoses. Pull them apart clean them and make sure they are secured and didnt leak before. If you havent invested in a oil catch can now would be a good time. If i can get my posts up i have one for sale PM me for details if ur interested.
