Should I be replacing my oil filter after a track day? Oil filter was put in new right before the track day along with new oil. I know oil needs to be replaced after a track day but wasn't sure if oil filter needed to be replaced as well.
why does your oil needs to be changed after a track day?? just doit every 3000 and youd be ok. unless you use them racing oils. i change mine every 1500 miles so every month orso i change mine. but you shouldnt have to cange your oil every track event. you oil (if its synthetic) will/should last atleast 5000 miles
the filter should be fine to keep in the car. I'd take it out and dump whatever is in there out, and then put it back in...in fact, that's EXACTLY what I've done. what track did you go to?
A track day is extremely hard on the oil (not to mention many other components on the vehicle. You get many times the fuel/combustion contaminants in the oil. This degrades the additives and detergents in the oil. One track day is about the equivalent of 5,000 to 10,000 street miles. You should change your oil BEFORE the track day and right afterwards. This is ESPECIALLY important for engines built for performance.
then i need to change my oil every day... lol i mean i know track day is hard on oil but thats also the reason why we use high performance oil. im not against changing oil often... believe me. ask some of my friends. ive changed my oil at least 50 times in the last 2 1/2 years. i do change it everytime i goto the track but after the track i leave it till it hits my regular interval. which is only 1500 miles. amsoil is teh shit~!
Oil temps are VERY high on track. This breaks down the oil. Changing the oil when you leave the track is cheap insurance. Siegel
