Oil pick up tube fix

    I don't think welding a thicker tube on there is going to help anything.

    I think that a tube that is 3 times thicker will be much less likely to break.

    I would be worried about it breaking at the other end looking at that...

    Seems like a better method may just be to reinforce the existing pickup rather than replacing anything. I would be curious to see exactly where all these things are breaking at...from there just reinforce or brace and you should be good.

    They are breaking about a half inch below the flange brazing. That's where the it sees the most vibration. The pick-up end is submerged in oil so the vibration on that end should be greatly dampened.

    actually, it just may do it... the problem was the overheated weld and vibration. It may just be enough strength to calm the vibration and a little larger area to weld the top.

    I think a gusset is all that may be needed. somehting to add a little strength to overcome the vibrations.

    I'm not worried about the bottom (pickup) snapping because it can move with vibration. it's not fixed and being leveraged by anything.

    You guys do realize that the tube is going to get really hot when you are tig welding it.

    Regardless, I think this is much stronger that just leaving it alone.
    We need some type of fix for this issue besides having to do a Moroso oil pan.

    I agree there needs to be a fix but tig welding the tube is just creating another weak spot, Tig welding takes more heat than brazing.

    Kartboy was supposed to look into make one but never heard anything else about it. Anyone have a hookup with Tom @ Kartboy?

    making these would be pretty trivial. whats the oem material, carbon steel? diameter of the tube? I've probably got a shitton of 304SS at work if anyone wanted me to make one

    I'd be game for anyone coming up with a fix. Replacing the oil pan just for the pick up isn't worth it to me. All I need is a tube that won't break. The rest is overkill.
