Has anyone ever heard of any instances with Subies, where there's been a oil-starvation issue while cornering? ...like, an air bubble getting in the system or something?
I don't know if there are any on the market, but I've always welded baffles in the oil pan on the cars that are wet sump at work to reduce this. They have little trap doors so that its limited where and when the oil can go.
The subaru motor does have some issues with oil starvation. Most of it comes from the oil pump cavetating (sp) under hard turns. It will pick up some air causing a momentary delay in oil flow. This is only seen in cars that have full slicks and see extreme cornering loads. If you plan on tracking your car hard I would suggest looking into one of these Or you could cut the oil pickup and lower it about a 1/4 so it sits deeper in the pan.
Hard, steady state cornering for a LONG time will cause starvation. I have seen this on a skidpad. But as Doug said...subies with HIGH lateral G loading capabilities will see it in most corners. However, the STi (all 06+ N/A cars as well) along with the 06+ WRX, the 06+ Forester turbo, and all Legacy turbos (EXCEPT Baja Turbo) have the MUCH better oil pan design. Which it's original design is to accomodate the twin scroll setup in JDM land...it also happens to submerse the sump better in oil, as well as directing the oil to the sump better.
