Following on from the AC noises thread. My 06 STI is due for it's 3k service on wednesday, and I have a couple of noises I wanted to ask people about before I look stupid at the dealership (thought it would be better looking stupid on a message board ;) ).

First one seems to be from the either the brakes or the clutch, I haven't quite figured out which. But when I come to a stop from a slow speed, and push in the clutch and brake pedals, I get a squeak/metallic chink noise from under the front.

Second, at about 120mph, the rear window on the right makes a weird glass resonating sound. I think the window seal on the top of the door is a bit loose, but I am not sure. Apparently a friend of mine in the UK had an 05 WRX which did the same thing, at about the same speed.

    Any thoughts?

Other than those noises, my car is behaving wonderfully, and I am enjoying it greatly. It's the first car of this kind that I have ever owned/driven, and it's wicked fast :)
I was going to write a mini review of it that covered the first 3k miles, but it only came to 2 words f-ing brilliant! :)

Well, going 120mph is pretty fast, and im not surprised air is getting inbetween the window and the seal at that speed :/

It's hard to want to help you when you are doing those speeds on the highways. You may be a great driver or whatever, but what about the person that is on the highways with you and doesn't see you approaching. SLOW DOWN!

we'll i believe the other noise your having is from the breaks and thats normal. The big break kit likes to squeek, and on the other hand I travel on interstate 95 to florida alot and I have done about 160 mph and a GSXr 600 couldn't keep up it was hilarious and yes i know before someone has a cow I should slow down but by golly I bought a car to drive and have fun and all that power would go to waste if I didn't, and i would do it on a track but I work weekends so yes sometimes I'm guilty of having a little to much fun on the roads as we'll:naughty:

The side mirrors and hood scoop make all sorts of howling sounds as you get up and above 120mph. My mirrors just make a really high pitched whistling sound.

its the clutch pedal for the squeak. Mine does it on occasion, there is a fix for it somewhere but I don't remember where to find it. Maybe nasioc

You mean he didn't keep up. If he wanted to he could have.

No I don't think so He was racing me side by side full throttle and as we approached the 160 mile an houre he slowly started to fall back not as if he let off the throttle but as if the bike was topping off we'll finally as i slowed down he pulled up next to me and looked at me and gave me the thumbs up just so everyone knows a gsxr 600 tops out at about 153mph so ya he couldn't keep up by the way my sisters boyfriend has the same bike and he couldn't either so I proved that, but if it was a 750 or bigger it mostly likely would have. By the way guys don't hate because your cars most likely couldn't take on a Bike but I'm telling the truth and I don't need to lie about this he topped out and I kept going!

discussing insane speeding is not only out of the context of this thread but it is also against the rules and regulations of WRXatlanta (link in my signature)... before things go haywire, this speeding discussion ends now and we get back on topic

    Heh thanks for moving it.
It turns out the window weather strip had come loose and was about to fall out, and the window was resonating at higher speeds.

(as for the speeding thing, I wasn't intending this to be a discussion of how stupid a driver I am, or how fast people go. The car is made to go quickly, and ONCE, I try the car out, somewhere where I am fairly certain that other people will be safe, and I get jumped all over...thanks :) ).

Yes, I think it is the clutch, the mechanics at Subaru couldn't reproduce the problem, but I heard it again today. It's odd that it only happens sometimes though. Trying to figure out how to cause it...not sure if it is related to the way I apply pressure to the pedal, or how fast I am going at the time, deceleration, acceleration, etc. Ho hum, hopefully it's not an issue that will cause the clutch to fall out while I am in the middle of nowhere with no phone service.

please read the rules and regulations in my signature... topics on speeding have brought controversy that we do not want to deal with anymore... please refrain from discussing such activity in the future... it is a bannable offense and is not open to debate or discussion...

this statement is not directed towards you but to all members, new and old
