Hey guys, i just bought a STi scoop for my wrx from j-spec tunning but they ran out of java black pearl till end of may. So im thinking about just buying it unpainted and then taking it somewhere around here to get it painted. Anyone know of any good body shops to get this thing painted??? Thanks

what they will do is "color match" the paint on your hood. I couldn't tell you the cost as I didn't pay for it. mine was also painted at the same time as the hood...so they match .

Artcraft will also do great work.

Lol thanks man. Thats what im looking for, color match. The cost shouldnt be to bad seeming as how its not that big of a piece. But i mean your hood and all matches the rest of the car without any problems right??

Yeah...I should have mentioned that the whole car has been repainted. :unamused:

ah ha! Thats why your car is so damn clean. The paint job is less than a year old. Suddenly I don't feel so bad anymore about the tiny blemishes in mine.

I think its time for an insurance claim. Someone wanna come and vandalize my car for me?

Usually they'll want to blend around the hood area into your scoop.

I gotcha. Thats cool though, i was also thinking about getting my car repainted too. But im curious about prices, how much did they charge for that??

Dunno...I should have mentioned that the car was wrecked twice in 3 months...don't ask. Got both sides, almost the same damage. Everything but the roof has new paint.

Correct...think of it as a light respray.

Ahh ok. Damn twice??!! Thats a good bit! Good to hear its going though. Ill probably just have them give me a price range since ill already be over there for the scoop.

I got the scoop in, and have been to about 3 places but none seem to do the "blending into the hood deal" around here...one place was trying to charge me $175 but that didnt work, i suppose they just thought they could rip me off or something idk, i just pretty much laughed and walked away. Another said $75 but they just match the paint according to vin number and color code, they dont blend it into the hood...so idk.

I havent been to Artcraft yet just bc its a good bit away from my house, and idk what kind of prices they have! Any ideas on what to do??

Dude, drive the extra 10 miles or so and go see Kevin at the one in Alpharetta. You won't be disappointed.

Or, you can ignore the recommendations given and go your own route.

Wow ok, let me start by saying that it was a complete waste of time for me to even ATTEMPT to go over there. ...So i get off work about 1 hour early in order to get to there on time before they close. On the way i hit some MAJOR traffic...seems as the im about to be late and miss the guys that do quotes, so i speed up a little bit...but seeming how im not familiar with all those roads and where cops usually sit, of course i get tagged and get pulled over. I get a speeding ticket plus a tint ticket from sawannee for going over 14 mph over limit  ...so at this point im going to be a little late...i hit traffic after that again...go through it ...FINALLY get there...only to talk to some guy that was just about to leave. Now, he comes and looks at the piece and tells me its gonna cost me around $210.00!!!!!!!!!! :eek3: That took me by surprise, i thought he was joking. I told him i was sort of referred to there through this website (Kevin was not at work) and how others have gotten it done for way cheaper only to have him laugh at me! So yea at this point i am pretty pissed off...i asked him if he was sure if that was the price, so he goes in the back to ask the painters themselves. About 5 minutes later he comes out tells me that they will do it for $175...like it was a deal or something?? he told me to come back tommorow to speak with the owner if i wanted too, at which point i was ready to use some derogatory language but held everything and just took my piece and walked away only to be stuck in traffic for 2 hours on the way home! The trip i took to get there, is gonna cost me more money than my scoop AND letting them paint it! :ddirty:

Just thought id share that story with everyone!

Dude. That sucks. I called on Thursday and it turns out that Kevin under quoted me a very good sum of money. I told him I wouldn't have brought the piece back there after getting the quote if it was going to cost that much, so he is ending up charging me the $75 he originally quoted me. Sorry about the ticket and confusion Monyg85.

Yea when i told him that i was looking to pay around 75 he just laughed at me lol. You got a hell of a deal then! But i did find a body shop by my work that is doing it for 75 dollars, hopefully theyll do as good job as any. Its all good about the ticket i guess it was My fault for speeding anyway.

Let me know when they paint urs so i can see the quality!

Yeah for sure. They are taking longer than they told me, but I'm not complaining. I'll take pics of it when I get it back.

Got the scoop painted and installed FINALLY! I found a body shop near my work that had a VERY reasonable price...$70...compared to the 200+ that i had been getting. I was a little nervous at first...but i just picked it up today and it looks amazing. Paint is near perfect. It matches and blends in with my car flawlessly. I love it!....

Now how do i post pics??? I have a flickr account?? would that work?

  33. Bug-Rex

Make a photo bucket account. Much easier.

I just got mine back today as well. Looks stunning. I am waiting to install it till tomorrow because I have heard from some of my friends that work at mercedes paint shop that its best to let it cure for one more night before install. Just an FYI.
