Just like the title says...my perrin ebcs it clicking loudly. I was just wondering if thats normal or is it malfunctioning or leaking etc...:unamused: Its kinda annoying and I mistook it for valve noise initially but I had Suby_rue stick his head up under the hood while I reved and thats definitely it. It only does it under partial throttle. Any ideas? a couple notes... Its been doing it since it was tuned. It never did it prior to that but I was only boosting 5psi. My car also massively overboosts in 5th and 6th..to the tune of 26-27psi (stock turbo :eek3but its also been doing that since the tune. Are these problems related? Really sucks cause I cant use boost in 5th-6th.
does anyone have a perrin ebcs installed on their car? does it click a lot? Im just wondering if I have a bad one
Yeah, its a solenoid. Mine clicks a good bit but I can hardly hear it over the dual wastegates. Its a mechanical solenoid so the clicking is it opening and closing rapidly. If it bothers you, you could wrap it in some foam. In terms of boost creep, the EBCS probably isnt the root of the problem. It controls boost more accurately than the stock, and when set up in interrupt mode faster than stock, but boost creep is probably caused mechanically in the turbo. You should email your tuner and get a reflash with lower wastegate duty cycles and if the problem remains you'll have to port the stock turbo.
It's supposed to click. I'm willing to bet that you have yours mounted to the side of the strut tower where the stock one was directly on the metal right? If so get that rubber boot that came off the stock one and it'll muffle the sound ALOT.
I dont believe Peerin makes the solenoid IF all of a sudden its ticking and no WGDC change then the EBCS is on its way out or a small particle is dislodged in the valve. Mounting and insulation can greatly reduce the noise but it may just be a bandaid EBCS (most) do not require the pil and hence more chances of debris lodging in the solenoid
Exactly! Its mounted directy to the shock tower. Ill try and insulate it. Like Ixiz said i was just making sure its supposed to make that noise before I try to muffle it. Thanks :sx:
I have the gm bcs and lots of people complain about it as well. I mounted mine with some rubber grommets and can't hardly hear it over the exhaust at all.
No..it still over boosts in 5th and 6th. I dont have the time right now ,because of the holidays, to deal with it. Now that I know its not the solenoid, I'm debating getting a re-tune or possibly waiting until I get my turbo upgrade.
No, I havent had the time. I'll prob wait til after the holidays. I rarely get on the interstate or even NEED to boost in 5th- 6th so I guess it can wait till then.. If they modify the map, wont I lose power? It already feels slow enough @ 310whp
Lol, yeah I guess I've just got used to it but it feels like a turd to me. I cant wait to get a bigger turbo so I can put my motor build to work.
IF this warmer 60 degree weather made it go away...could just need a little massaging of the tune. If not it is also possible it could be something mechanical. You can also try adjusting the wastegate actuator arm a 1/2 turn to see if it eases things.
My Perrin EBCS was so loud that I finally changed it out for a Prodrive. It is much quieter. The Perrins are known to be very loud no matter where they are mounted. I have used the Prodrive on our old LGT and currently on my 05 STI without complaint. Don't get me wrong, functionality wise the Perrin worked just perfectly, I just could put up with the noise. To the OP, you really need to have your tuner fix the over boosting issue before you break something. The extra power that you are getting right now IS NOT safe power.
Im not really getting any extra power, and I dont let it boost that high, I just know it will if I go WOT in 5th or 6th. A/F's remain safe but I know it will damage my turbo boosting that high. That and the turbo doesnt produce any more cfm after 14.7psi so its pointless.
Eh...not to be argumentative, but if you have a vf-39 it will produce more cfm at like 18 psi than it does at 14.7. I will be more than happy to show you with a quick map switch. You WILL move more air through your engine.
