How easy is it to take the center piece completely off my '05 STi grill. If i take a dremel to the top and bottom and smooth it out, would that be considered done?

You can use the dremmel to cut the pillar out, but not to smooth it out. Most likely, you will need to use Bondo to fill in a little where the Pillar connected at the top and bottom and paint it.

Here is a good write-up with pictures of the process.

by the way, it mentions semi-gloss/satin black paint. Is that the correct color of the grill?

Alex might be able to chime in on the correct paint color. I know he did his a while back. I would like to remove the pillar on mine soon.

Semi-flat is my preference but it's been pulled from the shelves. Grainger carries it in their warehouse I think still.

Use bondo and do it correctly :)

It's gone. It looked fine, I left the cut part a little high so I could grind it smooth...oneday. :p
