I was heading to dinner and I am extrmely lucky and thank god
    I cant thank god enough.

I was changing a few maps to take advantage of the colder temps and want to get a tad more boost under 3k. SO i changed my map and did some 1-2-3 gear logs on sugarloaf (its not WOT) its just regular driving before i do harder pulls on the way to work tomorrow.

So in order to get 1st gear logs i pulled over to the side waiting for clear traffic then do a couple logs. i got about 3 logs hence took about 1 minute of my time. And when i was about reach the QT on 316/sugarloaf. I was at the traffic light and 3 loud bangs and when i start heading to the QT i can see smoke from a red car and 3-4 cars all over the road. I quickly turn right before the accident and parked (near my dinner destination)

A red Mazda, was totally smashed passenger seat totally crumpled in with passenger still in a veery bad postition. The view was so horrific i dare not move closer after leaving my car. several bypasser pulled the driver out and drivers from other cars . Ther is no way the passenger could have made it because there was no passenger side.
The red Mazda 6 and a Black car was racing and lost control and both cars must have touched and both went across the median and head on with a FORD SUV.

Didnt want to add the gory details
The Driver of the red mazda 6 survived the crashed and was carried out.
The Passenger after 1.5 hrs was bagged. They had to use sevaral cutting tools to remove various car parts to get him/her out. My friend that i was meeting for dinner did run towards the red car and the said the passenger was still alive for a couple minutes and he had to walk away in total dismay, because he could only see the shoulder and head of the passenger the rest was unviewable under the damage.

yeah that is one aspect of my life i have learned to control. i NEVER street race. if i race it is a controlled environment, i.e. an official drag strip or a VERY big open area with no trees, ditches, people or other cars. and to tell you the truth its been so long since i even did either one of those i couldnt tell you the last time. i've seen/heard the horror stories myself and that was enough for me to realize how fragile life really is.

it doesn't matter if you think you're king-shit, know it-all, master of everything on 2/4 wheels, there are 3028957179457120934582910 other idiots out there waiting to screw up and end your day.

A few years ago, my wife and I were heading home on 85 south when a black Lexus and a 3000gt booked by maybe doing 120mph? It was like 1:00am and I saw their lights coming up REALLY fast, so I moved all the way over. About a mile later, I saw a bunch of smoke and then came to see the Lexus upside down and the 3000gt guy looking really scared. It appeared everyone was okay, but had I not been paying attention and changed lanes at the wrong time...

Its only a matter of time before something like this happens on mountain run.

No matter how careful you think you are that mini-van with a family in it might be on your side of the yellow line on a blind turn. At the speed limit you may be able to avoid them at the "spirited" limit there will be casualties. I have seen it and will never take my family on well known mountain run roads.

All you people who are going on mountain runs all the time take note of this. It WILL happen to you or someone you know. It is not just a possibility that it will happen, it is just a question of when. Please keep it off the streets, and take it to the track, auto-x, or whatever.

You know things like this happen even when people are not RACING. in 1998 I was sitting at a red light waiting to turn left and was hit head on...the guy was not racing he hydroplaned into me...

good point. my apologies again if you wanna race. call me and i will show you how to do it in a proper an safe environment free of charge. anything i can do to prevent this crap from happening again. and i agree with Face. piss poor driving could be mislabeled as street racing. thats what i hated about Michigan. we get some snow and people in 30k suv's are hitting each other yet me in my starion and my buddy in his s13 were getting along just fine. bottom line is don't drive faster than you can handle. and don't own a car that requires bigger brains, restraint, and balls than you have.

Most of the time it's 40-50 year old guys in corvettes (like my dad) who I see street racing. It's like they think they're immune or something.

Teen killed in car crash, police suspect street racing

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- A 16-year-old boy was killed in a car crash and authorities say street racing may have been involved.

The teen was a passenger in the Mazda 6 around 7 p.m. Sunday when the car, along with another car it may have been racing, lost control and hit two other vehicles.

Witnesses told police the Mazda and a Honda Accord were speeding on a road when a third car pulled out of a driveway.

The Honda clipped that vehicle and the impact caused the Honda to cross the median into oncoming traffic, Gwinnett County police Cpl. Illana Spellman said. The Mazda, which was traveling behind the Honda, swerved to avoid the first collision, also ended up in oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Kia Sportage, Spellman said.

The teen passenger in the Mazda died at the scene. His name was not immediately released.

The Mazda's driver was critically injured and was taken to a hospital, police said. The Honda's driver was not hurt, and the motorists of the other two cars were taken to a hospital for evaluation.

If it is found that the two cars were racing, their drivers each could face a felony charge of first-degree vehicular homicide, Spellman said.

don't forget about the bicycle guys out there. the last time i went out there is when i decided not to do mountain "runs" again... there are just too damn many of them and they're NOT in cars so the chances of someone dying go up 100x. it's just not worth a momentary thrill of taking a hard corner. but i do still go to the mountains, i just enjoy the scenery now ;)

    reality check

I agree with the "no street racing" rule, but don't everyone turn into weenies. Life is full of risks and you take your chances every minute, like it or not. I've been running the mountains for 20 years (no crashes yet :) ) and it's about knowing the limits and risks. Are you willing to crash/get hurt/die against a 1-1,000 chance? 1-10,000? Just know that each blind corner you enter could have both lanes completely blocked and stopped. Or worse, an oncoming RV taking up 1/2 your lane. Use that to determine your speed and stick to it.

IOW, I don't have a problem with personal risk taking based on knowledgeable acceptance of the consequences. And if you're willing to take those risks with others lives you're an asshole. :)

In the article they mention somebody pulled out onto the road in front of them. I dislike those people (not as much as street racers). It seems to always happen to me, though I'm just going the speed limit, not racing or speeding. I frequently have to brake because these people. They don't even try to accelerate to the speed limit. I think they purposely want to slow me down

just because u don't have a passenger doesn't mean you're not putting other lifes at risk.

The person who died was a very close friend of my brothers. they actually just went to a movie with a buncha friends the other weekend. He was just the passenger in the 2nd car that tried to avoid the person who pulled out in front of them. it has not been determined that the 2 cars were in fact street racing even though it is possible. i understand the whole teenage drivers=street racers stereotype but without any facts how can every news station label this accident at the fault of "street racers." im not tryin to defend racing so please dont get me wrong. im just here to ask people to please keep this friend in their prayers. as a part of this community i feel that i should at least ask this of fellow member instead of bashing people for street racing and remember that this person lost there life at 16 years old. this really hits home for me because my brother is the same age, same grade (classmate in fact), and coincidentally has a VERY similar name (Zahid Samani vs. Zohaib Somani, freaky huh?) as the victim. Rest in Peace Zohaib, you will dearly be missed my friend.

^^^ i think that its good to not speculate that it was racing that caused the mishap. Let the specialist or investigators do their job before labelling.

If you see the cars in the collision you will have no doubt that was a high speed collision. 2 cars cross over 3 lanes and a median and then hit a car head on thats very difficult to turn away from speeding.

Edit: see my next comment too....

Hhahahahaha.... yeah... well maybe you should keep it on the TRACK with all your experience then.:rofl::rofl:

I have a hard time believing someone that knows anything about driving fast would want to do so on a public road. Discipline my ass. It's not going to do anything you if you don't know what's around the next turn (parked car, bike rider, accident, deer, sand...). Not that I care about YOU, but I care about the people you'll kill when you F-up a turn. Look dude, I'd take the risk and time trial everywhere I go, but I care about hurting my passengers and others on the road.

FYI- You may want to advertise your Drive-like-a-dipshit-on-public-roads lessons on IA. You're not going to get much support around here.
