http://www.rs25.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1269993#post1269993 I can see why they wouldn't cover the event but dropping the policy?
I heard of Mitsu doing this to deny warranty claims, but never heard of an insurance company doing so. That is messed up. I have Progressive, and hope to never receive a letter like that. Especially considering that aside from the Suby Challenge, I doubt I will be participating in any events.
I'll bet their reasoning is that autoXers drive more aggressively than non-autoXers. Which is easy to believe from the outside looking in. Personally speaking, after about 6-7 events I went from fast and reckless, to fastER but more controlled. I had no idea how to control a car if it got sideways. I've learned what I can't do, what crossing the limits feels like, how to react... It's a great way to learn! In fact, I ever own an insurance company I'm going to offer a discount to active SCCA members. I think everyone should do at least one just to find out that their car doesn't handle, brake, and steer like they think it does.
You have register with your REAL NAME and SCCA number. Teamsolo members will also double check your SCCA membership and Valid DL at events. Please do not register with a fake name. Doing so is not a good idea and most likely cause some sort of issue for you at an event. Seeing how we have to run anywhere from 160-200 plus cars, anything like this will simply slow down the event for everybody and create more work for all the registration volunteers! SCCA provides event insurance, however I do not believe this covers damage to your car. If you have any further questions or issues relating to autox insurance please go to www.soloatlanta.com.
Allstate told us they cant give us insurance for on the track but we can get a seperate policy through someone else who does. I mean we even told them we have cars we raced.
I will personally guarantee you that you can not get insurance to cover you on track. There are a few companies that do provide on track coverage but the restrictions for getting it are unbelievable.
we figured as muchand they were up front with us about it, so we didnt care. besides zach is only one that needs it not me. i dont think a cone ever hurt any one ... though trees tend to sometimes.
yet another shitty thing i have heard about Geico. as a matter of fact i have heard nothing but negative things about geico
insurance companies that advertise a lot are just like law offices that advertise a lot. the more they do it, the worse they are
I heard a story about someone with Allstate getting cancelled due to an HPDE event at an actual track but never for autox. I wouldnt bother with Geico though, insurance is something you pay for hoping that they'll back you if you ever need it.
I just switched to State Farm from Progressive. My agent stepped up and got me an amazing rate, saving me $450/6mo. I would not use Geico for the simple fact the commercials are stupid. That gecko needs to go. It was funny the first couple of times. Now its just stupid.
USAA FTL! they wants 2000 for 6 months! for a 20 year old female clean record in a subaru baja! no thank you! its was barely 1100 for 6 months with allstate
Just so everyone is clear in this..this is NOT the issue of a member of this community NOR is it something that happened in Atlanta or with the ARSCCA. This thread will remain open so that everyone out there can be properly informed of certain practices out there that insurance companies are doing...
Do not think just call Liberty Mutual (IF YOUR RECORD IS CLEAN) they CANNOT be beat! I pay 1100 for 4 cars 2 of which have full coverage, this is for an annual policy. Yep that is right 1 year, hard to find insurance companies that will quote a year anymore.
Funny this came up. My buddy recently started working for GEICO. Naturally he did the 'you should sign up w/ GEICO.' bit with everyone except me. When I asked him why, it turns out GEICO is unbelivably anal about who they insure. My aftermarket exhaust alone would be enough reason to reject my policy, much less the rest of my mods or my Autocrossing. Point of my story is some insurance compaies should be avoided if you plan on driving a performance vehicle the way it was intended. GEICO may be great for my grandmother, but it's not for me. -Chris!
i have allstate and have had no issues. My agent heard me pull up in the suby too. I get house and car insurance through them atm and think the rate is very fair. Most places have cheap rates but the umbrella for the policy is very low...sometimes as little as 100,000. I assure you that can run out real quick if you hit someone and they need months of care or you get hit and need that money. As GTscoob said, it's in case the shit really hits the fan...not really for the minor stuff.
