Hi all, I'm building out a stereo and this time I'm going to run 6.5" components in the rear deck. I am not great with metalworking, and might need help with the cutting. I am slowly building the system via eBay and grey-market Internet sites, and trying to be patient about this in order to save money. I tyink I'll be ready in about two weeks to a month when everthing is bought and delivered.
Why would you want components in the rear deck? Generally you'd want them up front to set the sound stage, but you really don't need more than some fill (if anything) from the rear.
the only thing you will have to cut is the cover, there is already holes in the metal for 6.5" speakers.
Well my thought was to go components up front, and components or coaxials in the rear deck. In my old setup I wasn't happy with the rear fill coming the kick panels in the passenger doors. I figured that the rear deck locationwould be at more ear level.
I disagree! there's a couple good reasons i can think of other than my personal preference. ;p 1: [if not running a sub]If the mid-bass, or even woofer of a 3pc component, is suitable for free air, then you could get much nicer resonance off rear deck/trunk mounting than the puny airspace in the door. 2: if you like rock and like it loud, then reflection off the rear glass definetly gives a louder impression than piecemeal in the door with nothing on the dash. but really, if you prefer front stage imaging, he's right. I just happen not to.
Yeah, there's no 'right' here, just opinion. Personally I dig front imaging and am not too concerned about it sounding loud.
