I have the engine pulled and I was wondering if it would be easier to drop in the motor and transmission as a single unit, with an engine hoist, or if I should drop in the transmission from below and then the engine from the top.
thanks.. that's what i'm doing.. <rant> just drove over 70 miles to work on my car today and I have the wrong sized rear axle circlips from the dealer</rant>
engine hoist Hey ! I did my ej20R with the transmission installed using an engine hoist. it went in with ease on a 95 legacy..
I feel ya, we drove 46 miles in bumper to bumper traffic which took over 2 hours and were given the wrong fittings :squint:
Hehe, yeah that does suck. I am going to SoK today with a rear axle and see if someone in parts or in the back can help me obtain the correct circlips for it. I don't want to do this again. The good news is that I was able to get the transmission swapped from underneath the car, but it was an unstable balancing act. I would have been hesitant to do what I did with something more heavy like an STi transmission. My friend had a transmission cradle adapter for a floor jack but it added 6 or more inches to the height of the jack there was no way the bell housing part of the case would have cleared the cross-member with the car jacked up as high as we could safely get it. I'm glad I could use the same WRX shift linkage too, it came with a Perrin short-throw shifter as a bonus!! Still got a lot of work to do ( rear axles, re-fab ghetto 3" exhaust, driveshaft, install engine, fuel pump, fmic )though before it's drivable.
