My friends engine blew up three days ago and it got me thinking, i'm @ 107k miles in my wrx, i love the car more than anything, do i really wanna stress the car that much more to have something happen i cant necessarily afford to fix? My plans TBE - 18g turbo (upgraded turbo in general)-Stage 2 protuned by SS I'm worried that with this many miles id be stressing the car way to much and i guess you could say i can afford to fix it, but i'd rather not. I'm sure you all know what i mean. I'm starting to think i should just go for the visual upgrades i planned on doing (jdm sti 02 scoop, painted side skirts, etc.) I guess i am asking, how big of a risk is it to do the upgrades @ this high of mileage? oh and another question while im making a thread, Whats so great about a K&N drop in filter compared to others? wheres the benefit in the extra 50 bucks? lol
You need to get over the whole stressing the car thing. Anything you do, even driving the car puts stress on it. If you don't want to, or can't afford to replace an engine if something happens, I would highly recommend against a turbo swap. There is a risk with upgrading at any mileage. If you car has been well maintained, it would be the same risk as being on a much lower mile engine, but there is still a risk. If you can't pay, don't play.
Here we go again. I bought my car new. At 10K Topspeed tune the 18g...300hp 19psi At 20K Topspeed tuned the methanol....330hp 23 psi At 110K I got retuned for EWG and headers. 350HP 26psi I'm at 133K miles now. I drive the car everyday. I got WOT at least once everyday. I drive my car hard as crap 1-2 times a week. Need I say more? However every car is different and I maintenance the car meticulously.
You would be just as happy building your suspension first. Doesn't make sense to build up your power and can't handle it. It also makes sense to collect all your swap parts first then install all at one time. Get an alignment right after and you"ll swear your driving a different car.
Yes great idea, build your suspension first. There is no fun behind having lots of ponys and no was to control it.
I have prodrive blues already, and i've had the car for a maybe 6 months and am getting used to the way it drives. being 19, i want more. any answers to the k&n?
Man, grow some balls. My car has 125k and im doing this setup in few weeks. Got all parts. not for one second did i stop and think, will my motor blow up. If you wana play, you gotta take the risks. Vf39 sti pinks 4"-3"DP Sti UP 3" catback walbro fuel pump Turbo XS fmic CAI AP2 And some other stuff Its not strong as the 18g, but still a little upgrade that will push the motor a little higher.
you bought your car at 10k, and you still have it at 133k? Wow, you dont see that alot. Usually people crash their cars, sell them, cant afford payments or some other S**t. Why build the suspension if you're not going above 300? 300 with stock suspension will work fine. Correct me if I'am wrong.
