So, this is a reoccurring issue. After the last auto-x the PS belt is slipping, it needs to be tightened. I had it replaced at most 2 years ago. When they replaced it, I had to go back to get it tightened after it stretched out. It feels the same way, I only get lock-out on loaded cornering or if I'm in a parking lot turning the wheel quickly. So, is it hard to do? I'm so not a mechanic. And Patrick, you're so far away for a simple issue. Anyone want to show an old dog, new tricks?
3 bolts remove alt cover if you have one (4&5th bolts) loosen alternator pivot bolt driver's side of alternator loosen bolt on the pass side of alternator. (it will have a really long bolt going through it) then the bolt on top (the really long one) adjusts the tension (tighten tightens, loosen, loosens) Snug it up until you can only turn the belt about 90* then tighten the other bolts to hold everything in place. reinstall alt cover.
I'm a visual learner myself. Here's a short video with the bolts justin v is referencing http://youtu.be/0T093fBJ3uI
buy a new belt, goodyear gatorbacks are in stock at Summit. browse the clearance section while down there.
So that was ridiculously easy. The belts only 2 years old, so I just added some tension to it. I'll see from there. It's a Mitsubishi belt, it's still soft and rubbery. No cracks or odd wear that I could see. Thanks for the help, fellas! Patrick, thanks for checking in, appreciate it!
I'm cheap and just wait until they break. They're so easy to do its very little inconvenience. Took my old Outback skiing one winter and it started squeaking really bad, I kept some spare parts in there, including a belt, and swapped it at the resort with my mini tool kit for adjusting my bindings and whatnot.
