Ok I'm getting my car protuned June 5 by SS .

My current engine mods are as follows:
    Accessport Stage 2
    Helix Flex Uppipe
Stromung Shorty Downpipe (NO divorced wastegate)
    Custom 3rd Cat Eliminator
    2.5" STi midpipe with resonator
    Stromung 2.5" Dual Tip Catback
    Samco IC Y-pipe
    Green Drop In Intake Filter

At TopSpeed's dyno last October I put down 227whp/224wtq, but I've taken off my BOV since then.

I'm posting this now in case anybody has any comments or questions about my Protune.

I do have a question: Is there anything I need to do before getting the protune? Oil Change, etc?

are u gonna dyno it? if so, please do a before/after dyno... i would also be interested in seeing boost, timing, AFR for both cases... that way, people could tell if a protune is necessary with those mods

I'm hoping to get a before/after dyno. Is it included in the session?

well, a 'session' is purely based on time... but tell scott that if he wants to show people the advantage of protuning, then he can feel free to do before/after runs ;)... he'll probably give u a good deal :)

Yes I'm reading it. Milo, you're fired ;) We'll get the road-tuning done and see how we are on time...

    Tuning is $120/hour ;)

and one more thing how much time does it take to fully tune a car.. since it's 120 an hour times how many actual hours are needed? just so i know or every1 eles knows how much to save for this ;)

Generally a "common" setup like this is 2.5 to 3 hours, so $300 to $360...

Okay have another question: Thinking about getting the Stroming 2.5" Center Pipe. This would replace my stock resonator. Can I wait until after my protune, or is this something that will affect tuning, therefore having to be done beforehand?

    Cheers,

I doubt this piece will do ANYTHING other make more drone on the highway... The stock resonator is a straight-through perf pipe. It has virtually ZERO effect on flow. We've made over 400 whp through them...

Repolacing the stock resonator with a pipe that does not have a resonator falls onto the highly *NOT* suggested list...

    FTZ ^.^

SS has it right, however, with a 2.5" Piping all the way there shouldn't be much drone. With a 3", I would not recommend removing the Resonator. I have the Scoobysport 2.5" full exhaust, up, down, mid and and axle back. When I first got it, was very happy with the sound, but wanted it a little louder, went to Midas and had the remove the Resonator and replace with a straight pipe. Didn't make any difference except for the exhaust sounding tinny (is that even a word) when the car was cold. I have 0 drone at highway speeds.

    Thanks guys.

Was just hoping for a little bit of a louder pitch to my exhaust. I love the Stromung stock look, and don't want a big can to attract the blue lights, but I wouldn't mind it being a litte louder at idle and during normal acceleration (not WOT, just chugging around town etc).

No idea how the Stromung sounds, but you're basically describing how I see the Prodrive. It's a little rumbly but not noisy. :)

Wait, so I can replace the non-resonated pipe that came with the 3" catback I have with the stock resonator pipe and see no performance effects? That would be awesome! :sx:

On a stock turbo 2.0 liter I can't begin to imagine that it would matter. (Insert "700 whp Supra's run 3-inch exhausts" comment here)

Great. I know that the 3" is overkill for my purposes, but it was cheap...thanks for the info!

I just wanna say a big thanks to Scott Siegel for the time and effort he put into my tune yesterday!

He went above and beyond what he had to do in order to get my car running how it's supposed to. He is very fair on the price, and even fairer on the time he put into my car when he was tuning.

My engine now runs smoother than the day I bought it, but don't forget that between 3.5-5k rpm my car is hitting between 16 and 19 psi in all gears! It's brought a smile back to driving this beast!

Sorry milo, no dyno charts today but hopefully you can begin to arrange a new dyno day ;).

    Craig

p.s. with a special map added I can now truly call my car the Red Dragon

congrads bro!!!.....how much better would you say your car runs with Base 2.0 map VS custom protune?.......also how long did your protune take?...j/w

  28. Suby1128

    Suby1128 Member

I have to say that the custom protune made a huge improvement over the Base Stage 2 map.

Not only does it pull stronger for longer, but just the feel of the engine is smooth, it feels like it's running how it's supposed to. You can definately feel the turbo when it kicks in, where I used to be ready to how powerful my car would pull at WOT, it now throws me back into my seat again :D.

The protune, including time to set up, tuning, and lunch break at chipotles, ended up running about 5 hours.
