No, I haven't lost my mind. Have had the FMIC on for a while, and two things have me considering going back to TMIC: 1) This type of FMIC requires removal of the bumper beam. The replacement isn't anything but a thin bracket. I was only mildly concerned about this earlier, but as it turns out, there's a Moose, Jr on the way :naughty: and I'll be damned if I'm going to haul a little one around in a car where safety features have been messed with.. 2) Because the 2005+ fuel rail was changed, with the longer fittings where the fuel line connects to the rail, there is no good way to keep the hot side pipe from being extremely close to the fuel lines. If you raise it up with a bracket, the hood won't close properly. I used a piece of rubber as an insulator, but it's getting discolored from heat already. The '04 and earlier cars don't have this problem as they have hoses that clamp onto the hard lines, and no long fittings poking out...
Moose! Congrats buddy! And way to go on the impending child as well... Not sure what your ultimate goals were power wise, but it seems that the top mount will support quite a bit of HP. As for the infant, good luck throughout the pregnancy and once you find out the sex, if you decide to tell people, let the board know. You might be able to acquire some great hand me downs. I know we still have some left over stuff from Fiona. This is awesome. In like a year, we are going to have a WRXAtlanta kids meet...
Well, the Perrin never got any bites, so once I figure out why the stock BPV wasn't fitting right onto it I'll probably slap that on.
The issue was with the stock BPV not clearing the intake runners... I think it's because I was using a stock TB to IC connector; the Perrin supplied one is a bit longer. I'll just bite the bullet and fork out the $ for the proper Perrin TMIC hoses and it should drop right in.
Congrats on the kid! I feel the same way about front mounts; this car is my daily driver so I want to keep it as safe as possible right now.
congrats on the kid. btw i had fitment issues on my perrin tmic as well, nothing a 3/8" drill bit couldn't fix though
What was the issue? My problem was using the stock throttle body coupler, and if I pulled it tight then the BPV wouldn't clear the intake runners... I figure the longer Perrin hose will be fine. The brackets are slotted so I have some room to move it back/forth.
the tapped holes on the bottom where a little off, but remember i have a one peice manifold on the sti.
Congratulations, I knew you would come through on the TMIC :keke: Also, congratulations on the little one! :wiggle:
Good luck with it man..... That FMIC did turn out good though..... kinda sucks after seeing you spend half the afternoon chopping up your bumper with a Dremel
