okie.. this is the problem when ever i change gears i have to force it into any other gear some times i dont.. they go in like they soppose to go in.. but since last 2 days sometimes i have to force them in they stick is getting hard but whenever i go over 4000 rpm it smooths out... the way i drive i change gears every 3k rpm so i can save gas..w hats the problem? is it the oil..?? let me know A.S.A.P plz.. need all experts.. also if it's the oil maybe it's less should iput more? also i have red something oil that i got from.. vick who gave me the ra gears tranny.. what should i do? is my tranny rubbing or anything when it gets hard to put it into gear let me know.. :hsugh:
hmm, it could be alot of things all of which are hard to diagnose without taking the tranny out, my gut instinct is that its a bent shift fork.
Before you pull it, you could try having someone replace the fluid in the tranny for ya or a shop thats knowledgable. That would be the easiest fix (if that is indeed the problem).
OH, sorry, yes to all the basic stuff first, personally in a stock 5 speed I like royal purple and lucas transmission fix. In the dogbox we run straight redline shock proof, but I have never ran it in a regular box.
try the Uncle Scotty's cocktail mix... also if you can change out your engine oil, you can definately do the tranny!
Uncle Scotty's cocktail is: 1 qt Redline Lightweight Shockproof (found at Summitracing.com) 1 qt Pennzoil Synchromesh (found at Autozone) Fill the rest with Castrol HypoyC 80/90 (midwayautosupply.com...approximately 1 3/4 qt's) another cocktail ive heard about is: 3 quarts redline 75w90ns and 1 quart penzoil synchromesh.
what if i want to just put new juice in? can i put the redline shockproof in ??? i think thats what i got right now.. but only 3 bottles.. maybe another 1 should help?
make sure you read up on doing it first..you have changed your own oil before right? if youre not mechanically "gifted" dont hesitate to ask someone to help ya change it. as far as the mix I think either of the 2 I listed in my previous post will be a good mix
One of the guys I met @ the warehouse meet said it was a shop on memorial drive that carried the stuff to do the cocktial. cant remember his name but he drove a white forester lowered with white wheels. funny you should say that cause I have yet to change the oil in da wagon yet but I have changed the oil on other non turbo cars.
At first assumed it would be harder cause its a turbo, I'll be changing it soon, well after I get my "discounted" one at sog. lovin that sig. at the bottom too.
the tranny oil change is super easy...if your going to do the "cocktail" for me the lightweight oil made ALL the difference....but that was my set-up...
i'm comming to install day.. are u alex..?? if u r can u help me with my tranny oil change?? it would be great also i'm gonna go get some cocktal mix or order them today .. i dont wanna pay summitracing 20 dollers for a bottle of redline lightweight.. hey knhtrdr can u find out who has the cocktail mix.? maybe i will just buy from them..
thanks mic and milo to respond.. i didnt think that until u said milo glad u responded. also mic i will like to order red line thingy since u have free shippin going on
That transmission never had to be forced and never ever needed anything like that cocktail mix (which i dont personally like) to shift normally. First thing I would check is clutch freeplay to make sure its completely disengaging, then i would change the fluid.
For the two 5 speed boxes i've had in the car I've never used it and had a need for it. The original 02 boxes were pretty weak and had crappy syncro's so you just had to be careful when you shift. I worry about mixing all those fluids and then running in a very hot environment or doing track days or autocrosses. Since you are running some combo of fluids and you are lubricating the front diff as well as the transmission I worry about the lubrication properties of that kind of a mix.
Stay away from the synthetic blends of oils unless it's Scotty's Cocktail (does that even have anything sythetic in it). I have heard and seen a lot of horror stories involved with sythetic oils in the Subaru trannies.
