Looks like I have a head gasket problem on my 06 STI. I have noticed that my coolant tank has been dark black, after 2 coolant flushes in the past 6 months. SS noticed it when I got my 20G put on last November, at which time I went back to SOG and got my 1st flush the following week. The car has been running wonderfully since then, it is just that I have been going through oil like crazy (roughly every 2000 miles I was refilling). Last friday on the way home, I get up 400, and once I pull off to my street and stop at a traffic light, I see white smoke coming out from under the hood, and cruise home and open up the hood just to see a spray of coolant all over the engine bay. I take the car up to SOG on Saturday and they just informed me that the car drives perfectly after they replaced a bad coolant hose. They then flushed the coolant and took a test drive and again we have black coolant after a few miles. So I am wondering what the experience has been with cost/replair for a head gasket, or worse if it is the head? Also does it benefit me that if we are talking a $3000.00+ replair job to replace the block (I have about 54k miles on it now) and start fresh?: I welcome any thoughts or experiences. Cheers, Ali
Give me a call. I will set you up a quote on what you need to rebuild your car right. To do a headgasket you are looking in the 25 hour range. Basically the same as the Shortblock swap. Take care!
There are other things that can go bad and cause the issues your seeing that have nothing to do with a head gasket. PM me for more info as we have given out enough training already.
