So I have the Stromung 2.5" shorty downpipe, which connects to the stock 3rd cat pipe, which connects to an STi 2.5" midpipe, attached to a Stromung 2.5" axleback. I know I know, my exhaust is made of like 3 different companies. But they all fit, except now I wanna get rid of my 3rd cat. Has anybody done this after having a shorty downpipe, and what kinda pipe do I need to do this?

I found this one on eBay: Clicky
Will this mate up to the donut flange and the shorty downpipe?

Also, will it add any noticeable power and how much louder will it be? I would like to hear my deep note I have a little louder, but don't like waking up the neighborhood.

Any help would be great, I feel like getting a little extra umpph when I go home from college.

yes, i believe that you will see a small difference when removing the 3rd cat and 70 bucks for one soudns like a hell of a deal.

First I wanna see what company made the pipe. It looks like a nice one, I just wanna make sure. Is that definately the pipe that replaces the 3rd cat and will connect to a shorty downpipe?

it looks like it, but my only concern is why there is a exhaust hanger braket without the hanger welded on?

I have heard with no cats, its going to be very loud. Although, it isn't a full 3" system. I thought the Stromung shorty was 3".?

I thought the stromung was 3" too but i think they also make a 2.5" or maybe he was referring to the neck down to mate with the stock MP

I have absolutely no cats in my WRX and it is loud with the apexi N1 exhaust the only thing is once I put the upipe in then my Engine light came on and I got the code checked, It,s not a bad one just basically states that the engine is running below catalyst for normal operating. Basicly in English you have no cats, I believe a re tune will eliminate this code I haven't done it yet.

Just get a CEL fix. It splices into the O2 sensor on the front midpipe. They are cheap, like $24 or something at fastwrx.

They're pretty much identical to the cheap "Spark plug defoulers" you can get at Advance or other parts stores.

or you can get engine management like me :p. No CEL's here. Yeah I think this pipe will do the job, and when I said 2.5" I made a mistake and meant that it tapered down from 3" to 2.5". I think I'll buy this and give it a shot. If it isn't what I want I'll put it up on nasioc and see if somebody bites.

The CEL fix in the front midpipe is right after the downpipe. Check out the suby engine/exhaust/intake diagram http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1029. That diagram would be a good sticky. Directions come with the CEL fix, and are really easy. You just need some wire connects, cutters, and black electrical tape.

    OR much better one.

    new Engine Management

  17. I believe only AccessPort will fix the CELs. Not EcuTek... ;)

No, ecutek can eliminate most of CELs that your tuner chooses too. I don't have any CEL eliminator and still got no CEL with ecutek. I have only 2.2k resistor mod for UP since scott forgot to take out that particular CEL. At least he offered me free resistor. ;)

  19. Isn't that because you still have the high flow cat in the 3rd pipe? ;)

I'm 99.999999% sure that ecutek doesn't eliminate CELs. hehe

There are some CELs that won't be cleared by ecutek and some can. CEL causing by removing cats can be removed with ecutek. I guess Doug or Scott can chime in to make that 100% correct.

I know SS has cleared my overboost CELs on countless occasions.

  22. I personally asked Doug when he was tuning my car with stg 2 setup 'cuz I had an up-pipe cell and was told that it wasn't possible with ecutek.

I know you can clear codes with obdII scanner but that's just for temporary. It will come back as the problem's still there... kinda like resetting the ECU I guess. Which I'm assuming that's what Scott's doing to Alex's car since Alex doesn't have ecutek.

I'd go with a stromung 3rd cat eliminator. I tried to match a Prodrive to my Stromund dp and no-go. Big step on each side. The jacka55 @ FASTWRX insisted on charging to 20% restocking, jerk, but that's another story.

Are you sure your shorty dp is only 2.5 inches. Any how I've go no cats w/all Stromung except for a Prodrive axle back. Mine not real loud at all, just a bit @ WOT. Yours shouldn't be much louder with the Stromung axle back. I got the electronic CEL eliminator. Has worked fine for several weeks now. Try DaddysSCP, great vendor.

Not having a cat in the downpipe should still set off the CEL in the midpipe.
