I was just going to ask any students or former grads at GT if you knew about the Optics/Photonics program. It looks awesome and I am seriously thinking about going to GT to pursue this. My background is in Optical Networking and I really think that this would really enhance it. Thanks in advance. Also, if anyone knows a professor in that program that I could speak to, that would be nice also.... Mark
i take it you know that GT has this program? if so i believe the best way to find out is to find out how to access the gt alum websight. from there you should be able to find someone that has graduated from this program unless its bradnew. in that case i would let the program build so that you get the most out of it.
my former roommate was a EE doing alot of the physics optics classes as his speciality and got a job with lockheed. If you're into the optical networking aspect of it, talk to Gee-Kung Chang, he was my TA for 2025 and did alot of work with telecommunications for bell labs i think. http://www.op.gatech.edu/faculty-staff/bio.php?id=202 hope that helps. I know no one who does the physics major and that kind of specialization. I just know that the physics major is pretty tough overall.
I have already done that JT...I just wanted to ask around on our forums to check with anyone who may know any current professors...Thanks a lot for the tip.... Mark Thanks RamblinWRX...I will do that...I would like to discuss this further to get a grasp on what this program specifically teaches.... whether it is more optics or more photonics... I have experience with both....I really need to bone up more on Physics though. There was a Lucent instructor by the name of David Favin, and we had to take a pre-requisite course before we could even touch this specific Optical System, and he went to MIT. He has 27 patents for Lucent. If you do a search on Yahoo or any site, it will totally blow your mind away what this guy has done for Optics... Mark By the way, JT, how is school going for you at ITT Tech?. I bet it is a really cool curriculum, but you are breezing through it I bet....Good Luck... Mark
Cool I am going through some school stuff right now. I know how it is to do research. The alum sight at my school I attended is how I chose my next choice in life. They didn’t tell you the Profs name when you talked to the gt admissions people? I agree it is very important to find out exactly what the course initials
Mark, Good luck with GT! Just remember it can be a bit stressful, GT gave me gerd, an inflamed gallbladder and a diploma. But you do get one of the best educations in the country too .
I haven't spoken with admissions yet...I am going to speak with them and also ask some course specific questions to the one professor that RamblinWRX posted about...Thanks everyone for the help...I really am excited about this, but I need to also find out if they have Vet Assistance available. Mark
Thanks a lot Alex for the info...I have been reading about that extensively on the GT website. I am going to pick up a course catalog on Wednesday. I left a VM for you too. Mark
