i've been trying to look it up but found nothing, whats the difference between single and double wall mufflers?

and to knock out 2 threads in 1, any downsides to electric cutouts?
i've heard of the electric motor failing but is there anything else?

Lol, so much confusion in this thread. He's referring to the motor that opens and closes the electronic cut-out, as he clarified. There is absolutely no harm done to your engine by using a cut-out. :)

I've heard of the cutout motors failing 3rd hand, but mine has been working fine for about a year. Internet rumor?

No clue on the mufflers. The thing with electric cutout motors is that if you power the motor for too long after its fully open it'll overtorque the motor and lead to premature failure. QTEC has a smart controller now that opens it all the way with the push of a button.

  10. The answer to your muffler question is this, mufflers have an outer shell on them, the main pipe runs threw this shell, the pipe usually has perforated holes (stock most of the time). This allows the sound and air to travel around the muffler damping the sound. The shell on a muffler is also know as the wall, to better explain here is a picture that explains it.

With double walls there are 2 walls, between these walls is packing (this is where you have heard the term glass packs) the better the packing the more deep muffled the sound is. This allows your muffler to absorb the bursts of exhaust from the engine into a pur. Most of the time the packing is made of high temp cloth, very close to that in your firewall or fire suit on the track.

With a single wall there is not packing in it, and gives you alittle higher pitch sound out of the muffler, this gives you less deepness to the sound and louder. Best example I can give you is some super bikes have single wall mufflers on them, making them louder.

    Hope this helps.

I have actually read some good things about cut outs. It seems that the best ones are the ones that cut out right after the down pipe and lead to a straight pipe that exits out from underneath the car on the side. Gains can be decent, but it needs to be tuned for. What most guys do is they have a real time map in the AP that they can switch to when using it. Me, I'd rather go kinda stealth, lol. I am not in to the super loud pipes and such. There are plenty of other ways I would rather spend my money for permanent gains that don't attract unwanted attention from the police :)

when my car was tunned last, my cut out was not on. since then i have the cut out on it and use it alot. i know that im not getting the max gains by not having it tunned but will it hurt anything by not doing this?
