i have an entirly new stereo system and im going to pick up a head unit tomorrow from work. My question is in the wrx when i take the 6 disk changer out of the dash is there a kit i need to buy? or can i just put the new one in and go? thanks guys
you need a wiring harness to plug into the stock one. or you can cut the old one and barrell connect the whole thing(not recomended). and you'll need insert for under the stereo unless the replacement is a dual din size.
u need a mounting kit, u should be able to find one at ciruit city, best buys, or hifi buys, they are like 20-30 bucks, and get the wiring harness!
You only need the mounting kit, as JT stated, if you don't have a pocket insert for the second din slot. The wiring harness is a mandatory item as it will save you hours of time over the life of the car. Imagine having to splice and unsplice a dozen wires every time you want to remove the radio...hnoes: Grats on the system!
mounting kit??? i didnt use a mounting kit. i used two plates that came off the stocker thats it. it screwed right into the new outercasing of my radio. but not all stereos are the same.
I wasn't saying you said you needed a kit, just that you would need something to place in the second din slot. Often, mounting kits will come with a blank plate to stick their so you could use that. What many have done, is to buy a flip face pocket from the forester (about $30 from SOG) and use that for your second slot. It requires a little modification, but its pretty easy to do and looks factory installed...
cool thanks guys...im gonna go back up to work(best buy) this evening and get a wiring harness and kit which with my discount is 5 bucks for it all. haha. thanks guys!
well i just bought a harness.......then a dash kit that didnt fit so im gonna get the legacy thing. Or forestor? whichever the cover comes out of.
i got mine installed at best buy when i bought it. they used one that fit well in my car. you have a 02 right?
My buddy bought an STI aluminum plate to block it off. It looks clean and has STI stamped into it. Not to sure where he got it tho.
Glad you got this taken care of...if you need to cover the hole, I just suggest some black electrical tape
I hope you pulled all the CDs out before you removed the power and removed the unit. If you jar the changer abrubtly, while it's out the car, the changer will no longer work correctly. Ask me how I know this.......
I appologize for repeating anyone else but you will need to buy a WRX wiring harness. Please PM if you have any additional install questions. I put my system in when it was snowing. Snowing in Atlanta?! The only day ever...lol
