Looking at the image I stole from JSC, does that look accurate as to the dB rating of each muffler? Out of these, which will fit an 06 WRX with 3" downpipe like the Invidia I have? I think it's 3"..... I looked at the Greddy and Blitz Spec T and both said it will work with stock, but aftermarket 3" will have problems. I don't want a duel-tip, a few more of those on the list are off. I couldn't find a scooby sport one on their website for 06 WRX, looks like they stopped after 05. Thanks for any suggestions. Also, if anyone thinks they have a good quiet exhaust on a 06+, let me know so I could perhaps ride and hear it and hear it from outside also. 420's is good but that's a scooby sport on a pre-06 model.
What do you guys think of the HKS carbon ti exhaust ? That was going to be a purchase made very soon but then a buddy of mine whos opinion I respect said it was a little riced out...
i have the helix 3" dp to greddy evo II. very quiet exhaust, but at WOT sounds wicked. if it mates up to my helix, it will with your invidia.
Chris, I dont know if that includes yours...I think its referring to the newer n1 (resonated). The racing one, obviously, is resonator-less. The ANSA is definately louder than the Invidia in my experience. To answer your question, basically anything will fit so long as its made for the WRX's. The difficulty arises when you have some sort of JDM downpipe, which generally has different fitment than the ones built for the US cars and it usually requires a JDM catback of sorts. Regarding the HKS, I dont really like them. However, I dislike any exhaust with a huge can, hence why I liked the invidia so much. Subaru's arent the cars for the huge cans, you need a classy small <4" tip
Shane, I would like to look at the Greddy Evo2 but it's made for up to WRX05, not 06s. Will the 05 one fit under the 06 on the stock hangers? I don't think it will, but if it did, then I'd call Mike at Sakari right up or start looking for one on forums. Few ones missing on there are Cobb, and Prodrive. I was looking at them as well, I liked the sound clips of the Cobb and I heard Prodrive is quiet. Can anyone take an educated guess and put them between some of the ones listed up top? If anyone is thinking of selling a decently quiet cat-back, because you want to upgrade to a louder one, let me know; if it will fit an 06.
someone chime in on this...did the 06's change as far as the hangers go? i would assume not, but someone step in on this one. i would let you hear my set up, but i'm down in stockbridge, if you're willing to drive down this way. i love my set up, cause it brings out the boxer rumble, but not uber loud. no droning either, but at WOT it def screams. i'm also catless too.
I think the HKS is by far the best looking big-canned exhaust. I have considered it to be my favorite ehaust, period, on multiple occasions. However, over the years I've grown more and more a fan of smaller looking exhausts. I just don't like the stereotypes that come with a huge exhaust. I don't like being lumped with all of the high schoolers who slap a fart can on any import (or domestic...eww, no big can belongs on any domestic). However, that being said, if I was building a car as a non-daily driver, that might very well go to the top of my list. I do think it's a sharp exhaust and after riding in a wrx with one I feel the tone of it is amazing. Keep in mind you can also get basically the same exhaust for $100+ cheaper just without the TI tip and carbon fiber.
Turboxs exhaust is also fairly quiet. I am looking to upgrade at some point to a reasonably quiet full 3". The TurboXS is a 3" that tapers to a 2.5" in the catback.
I love my Nur spec R sound. Its loud as sh&t with my TSUDO downpipe. I like the sound of the HKS also that was going to be my second choice. :naughty:
personally i dont think any aftermarket exhaust on a subaru is "quiet", heh. I've got a helix 3" DP with a prodrive 2.5" axel back and it has a great tone and not crazy loud either.
The 2006 hangers for the muffler (a.k.a. rear section) are set up in a 2 -1 pattern. That is, two at the very end (bumper side) and just one on the connecting pipe. Not to thread-jack, but I've been running with a stock TR muffler with a cut-out for a couple of weeks now, which was kind of cool (nice sound under half acceleration, but just rushing air at WOT) but too loud to keep it on indefinitely. I actually just installed the Prodrive Oval Tip on my car today, and it's fairly quiet. I'm actually a little disappointed. There's a good burble at idle, but nothing that you can hear if you're in the car. It's a nice-looking exhaust, though. The oval tip fits the bumper cut-out perfectly, and it looks nice from the back. I was looking for something that looked stock-ish as far as the tip and can go, but wanted more volume (though less volume than the cut-out). I haven't replaced the midpipe yet, so that may net me a little more volume, but I'm considering taking the exhaust back. We'll see.
You just bought the exhaust and not a cat-back system? What downpipe do you have? I need to get some rides on different exhaust cars and see which I like the sound of best. Because at 300whp, the exhausts don't really matter in performance, it's mainly sound with the 3". Aside from like maybe HKS Ti or like some of those ultra loud and straight ones. Right?
If you roll the windows nice, the prodrive has a great WOT sound. What I was considering was trying a different intermediate pipe for the prodrive and seeing how it adjusted the sound.
You still have calmnothing's EVO2? I asked him about it, but I'm starting to waffle on whether I really want to fool with my exhaust.
The '06-'07 Impreza exhaust piping is different than that of earlier years ('02-'05) in that the intermediate pipe/midpipe is one piece instead of two. From what I could see, there are three pieces that make up an '06-'07 exhaust: the downpipe (w/cat#1), midpipe (w/cat#2), and muffler. A "cat-back" system for an '06-'07 would replace the midpipe and the muffler. Prodrive's exhaust doesn't do that; the muffler replaces only the muffler, and their "center pipe" is half the length of the '06-'07 midpipe. That's because in earlier models ('02-'05) the midpipe is actually two pieces. So, I ended up buying only the Prodrive muffler. I plan to leave my downpipe alone, because I've read plenty of horror stories regarding boost creep on newer Imprezas when a TBE is installed. I'm looking for the midpipe, but I'm having trouble finding it online - I may just go to a muffler shop and get one made if I decide to keep the muffler. I imagine that getting a cat-less midpipe would raise my exhaust volume a little bit.
The blitz nur spec type T (for touring i think) is very quiet. It'll rumble when you gun it, but it's not loud enough to grab people's attention. Ped and I Traded exhuasts for a bit and he might be able to chime in on it as well.
