at the autocross on sunday, i had the issue with the victoracers not gripping at all... after my last run, i touched my tires and they were not even warm... every run i was sliding all over the place and experiencing massive understeer and a little oversteer from time to time... i have a great alignment which i enjoy on on ramps and off ramps... however the grip i achieved with the r-compounds was disappointing... i even had a DNF cuz my car simply went straight when i was turning on my first run my setup is as follows: tein flex with 8 kg springs 26mm front swaybar 24mm rear swaybar 225/50/16 v700 victoracers my front tire pressure was ~35 psi and rear was ~32 psi... these might have been inadequate... also maybe i have been storing these incorrectly (they sit in cardboard boxes at home)... the irst time i raced with these, it was july last year and they gripped awesome... on sunday they were horrible... anyone have any tips on tire pressures, warming, storage, etc.?... i would really appreciate it
tire pressure Your tire pressure sounds high to me but I have never run that particular tire. I runa a yokohoma a032r and I run them right around 20-25lbs Good luck Matt
Milo, Trust me that you will be very happy with your tires as the season goes on. When it starts to warm up and we get ambient temps of 90+ on the asphault, those things will grip like crazy. It was still fairly cool on Sunday, and our run group was so big that the time inbetween runs was crazy. You think you were slidding around, you should throw the RE92's back on and see what happens:crying: Anyway, I know you felt that you weren't getting good grip, but just remember that it will get MUCH hotter as the season goes on. I really believe that you will see a huge difference the first warm day. The Victo's are widely regarded as a decent tire with the Hoosiers the best, not sure about the Avons. I know even with the RE92's I left a good 2-2.5 seconds on the course each time. I wasn't even trying to get my line down this weekend. Just trying to get back into the flow of everything happening so fast. Ulitmately, I will gladly trade you my RE92's for your Khumos I'll post a link to the victoracer guide from tirerack. It includes info on air pressure and such.
I know I am not anywhere near the limits of my cars ability yet, so, here are a few guides that I have book marked from the web. Maybe we could start a motorsports section of the forum and begin an FAQ sticky?? If you can afford to go and want to continue autocrossing, then these schools are awesome.
